Begin bij Edificio Italia — Begin je reis bij het iconische Edifício Itália, ooit de hoogste van São Paulo en nog steeds een van de meest herkenbare bezienswaardigheden van de stad. Dit ontmoetingspunt plaatst ons in het hart van het “Centro Novo” en vormt het toneel voor een wandeling door de lagen van de complexe stedelijke geschiedenis van São Paulo.
Brutalisme in Copan - Het Copangebouw is ontworpen door Oscar Niemeyer en is een meesterwerk van Braziliaans modernisme en brutalistische architectuur. Met zijn opvallende rondingen en enorme schaal weerspiegelt het het optimisme en de chaos van de verticalisering van São Paulo halverwege de eeuw en de ambitie van een stad die zichzelf opnieuw uitvindt.
Centro Novo Treasures - Verken galeries en ondergrondse winkelgangen gevuld met vinylplaten, antiek, manga en popcultuurrelikwieën. Deze levendige zone onthult de hedendaagse ziel van de stad, gevormd door diversiteit, consumentencultuur en weerstand. Een favoriete plek voor verzamelaars en subculturen.
Braziliaanse identiteit - In het Stedelijk Theater reflecteren we op hoe Brazilië zijn culturele identiteit vormgaf. Geïnspireerd door de Europese architectuur organiseerde dit gebouw de Week van de Moderne Kunst 1922 — een keerpunt waarop kunstenaars de traditie doorbraken om iets unieks Braziliaans uit te drukken. Hier ontmoet elegantie rebellie en identiteit het podium.
Art Déco & Coffee Boom - Bewonder art-décogebouwen en grootse gevels uit de gouden eeuw van São Paulo. In het begin van de 20e eeuw symboliseerde dit gebied rijkdom, vooruitgang en kosmopolitische ambitie. We duiken in hoe koffie infrastructuur, cultuur en diepe sociale contrasten financierde die vandaag de dag nog steeds zichtbaar zijn.
Jezuïeten & stichtingen - Hier werd São Paulo officieel gesticht in 1554. In Pátio do Colégio ontdek je hoe jezuïeten missionarissen en Tupi-Guarani volkeren de oorsprong van de stad hebben gevormd. Onder het plein ligt de spanning tussen kolonisatie en verzet, religie en macht.
Neogotische Kathedraal - De Sé Kathedraal staat op symbolische “ground zero” en is een van ’s werelds grootste neogotische kerken. Meer dan religieuze architectuur is het een ruimte van protest, samenkomst en identiteit. Leer over de stedelijke symboliek van dit monumentale bouwwerk.
Eindig in Liberdade - Sluit uw wandeling af in Liberdade, de grootste Japanse wijk buiten Japan. Met zijn lantaarns, markten en multiculturele straten weerspiegelt deze wijk de voortdurende herdefinitie van São Paulo door immigratie. Een levendig, levend voorbeeld van het hybride DNA van de stad.

Excellent walking tour with Giuliano. It was a brisk walk through different neighbourhoods in the central antea and he offers a unique perspective, focusing on how people from diverse backgrounds came to live and co-exist in the same space. It was a great way to get a feel for the city and absolutely well worth the time and money.
Giuliano is an excellent guide; knowledgeable, passionate, engaging... He makes you want to do the walking tour over and over. I'd recommend him to anyone visiting Sao Paulo.

I traveled solo and was a bit stressed about it, so decided to book a tour to see São Paulo. My guide, Giuliano, made this tour an absolutely amazing experience. There were only three of us, and we didn’t know each other beforehand, and yet the whole thing felt very relaxed and friendly. So often guided tours can feel boring or overloaded with unnecessary facts, numbers, and dates, but this was completely different. Instead, it felt like taking a walk with a very intelligent friend. I’m truly grateful for such a memorable experience.
Good option to walk around downtown with a guide. Better than walking by yourself or doing a bus tour. But narration could still be improved.
