Een van onze populairste tours! De Sani Pass Lesotho 4x4 tour vertrekt vanuit Durban en stopt bij de hoofdstad KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg. Je Gids geeft je een korte rondleiding door de stad en bezoekt het standbeeld van Mahatma Gandhi bij het stadhuis van Pietermaritzburg. Daarna gaat de tour richting het Drakensgebergte en omhoog naar de Sani Pass in Lesotho. Paspoort vereist.
De Sani Pass is een 33 km lange onverharde weg die over de steile kliffen van de Drakensberg loopt in een reeks strakke Zig Zag bochten. De route begint bij het Sani Pass Hotel dat 1566m boven zeeniveau ligt. U reist in een 4×4 omhoog langs de smalle weg die de grenspost Zuid-Afrika / Lesotho passeert die 1968m boven zeeniveau ligt. Onderweg opent zich het landschap van KwaZoeloe-Natal met spectaculaire uitzichten op glooiende heuvels en uitgestrekte luchten. Je Gids neemt je mee naar het huis van een local om je kennis te laten maken met een Basotho volk in een lokaal dorp. Daar ziet u hoe de Basotho bevolking van Lesotho leeft. Daarna ga je naar beneden Sani’s Pass en steek je de grens over naar Zuid-Afrika en ga je terug naar Durban.

Had such a wonderful time driving the famous Sani Pass into Lesotho. Major shoutout to the absolute most amazing guide - Fortune. He was the best driver, most knowledgeable, coolest, most fun, most kind guide. We’re loved this unique and thrilling experience in the Kingdom of Lesotho! 🇱🇸
Bule was our tour guide and he was amazing! This was our first time in South Africa and he welcomed us and educated along the entire drive. He was patient and answered all of our questions while giving detailed information and stops along the way. We had such a great time that we were excited that he was our guide again the next day. The day started off warm but right as we got in the car Bule explained that it would be a lot colder on the mountain. He waited while my husband went back upstairs and got coats for us. So glad we did. This tour is great for families and people seeking exploration. We learned that only 5% of people ever get to visit Lesotho and we are now a part of that group. The drive was long and sometimes rough but well worth it. We felt safe and comfortable with the guide and are already planning our trip back and only plan to tour with Bule! The views are nothing like anything I've ever seen in my life. Be prepared to take lots of pictures and bring a backup battery for your phone.

It's a long drive but worth it to get a feel for Lesotho. However note, the drive up and down the Sani Pass is very rough and steep so is quite uncomfortable for an hour. Also, you will only spend an hour or so in Lesotho as the drive from Durban is around 4 hours each way. The scenery is great and very rural with spectacular views, but this depends on the weather which can be inclement and cool. So be prepared.

Fortune offered a fantastic tour to and from “the Kingdom in the Sky.” We learned a lot about Lesotho and the Basotho people, and the skyward drive through the Sani Pass was so scenic.
I loved the trip to Sani pass and quick stop in Lesotho! The trip includes a lot of driving, but thanks to the many stops - our guide Fortune would also add some extra stops for pictures - the drive never was boring. We were blessed with great weather, so the drive up to Sani pass was truly spectacular. For me, the pass with it's stunning views was definitely the highlight of the day. The visit to Lesotho was quite short (compared to the overall trip duration), but still worth it and impressive. Despite the short time, you can see the local mountain live and the stop in the traditional village gives some more insight. Would definitely recommend it!
The Sani Pass Tour was an unforgettable adventure. Fortune was an excellent guide — calm, attentive, and very experienced. The mountain road was challenging but incredibly scenic, with spectacular views at every turn. Crossing the border into Lesotho and learning about local village life added a unique cultural touch to the trip. The whole day was well paced, informative, and truly memorable. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone looking for something special.
We were very lucky to have our skilled guide, Fortune, who had a lot of knowledge about Lesotho and the Basotho people - their culture and language which was very interesting. This is -with no doubt- the most beautiful country border I have been at. A memory for life!
