Ongeveer 100 kilometer van Boekarest en 44 kilometer van Ploiesti, is de Slanic-zoutmijn een erkende bestemming voor balneal- en toeristische activiteiten sinds 1853, toen het werd uitgeroepen tot toeristische bestemming van nationaal belang in Roemenië. Onder de superlatieven van de zoutmijn (vooral de Union Mine), het belangrijkste toeristische en gezondheidsdoel van het resort, bevindt zich een enorm volume aan opgegraven zout, ongeveer 2,9 miljoen kubieke meter, wat leidde tot het ontstaan van holtes met gigantische volumes , respectievelijk 14 trapeziumvormige kamers van in totaal ongeveer 80.000 vierkante meter. De 14 ondergrondse kamers hebben een opening van 10 meter tot aan het plafond, 32 meter breed aan de onderkant en de hoogte is 54 meter. De diepte van de zoutmijn is 208 meter. De indrukwekkende afmetingen leverden het de titel op van de grootste zoutmijn van Europa.

We bezochten de grootste zoutmijn op 2,5 uur rijden met de auto (inclusief een stop onderweg voor een pauze) we komen aan bij de Slanic Prahova-zoutmijn en de zoutberg. De maximale diepte van de mijn is 217 meter en de trapeziumvormige kamers zijn 55 meter hoog. De totale oppervlakte van de mijn bedraagt ongeveer 80.000 m2. De hoogte van één hal is 70 meter en het circuit loopt rond de enorme pilaar die de mijn ondersteunt. De Unirea-mijn is het resultaat van de uitgraving van 2,9 miljoen m3 zoutafzetting, waardoor holtes met gigantische volumes ontstonden: 14 kamers met een trapeziumvormig profiel. binnen kun je het zoutmeer en de waterval bezoeken, die vanaf een houten brug te bewonderen zijn. diverse tentoonstellingen met apparatuur die werd gebruikt om de zoutmijn te exploiteren of om de mijnwerkers te redden. Highly recommend this visit to the Slănic Unirea Salt mine. Gabriel got us there and back safely and gave a good commentary about Bucharest as we were driving through and leaving the city. Unfortunately as I was sitting at the back of the minibus I couldn’t hear what he was saying a lot of the time especially while the bus was moving. The mine was huge and absolutely spectacular. Like nothing we’ve ever seen before. The journey time wasn’t too long either.
I really enjoyed visiting the salt mine. Perhaps what could have been missing was the option to have a guided tour, but to be honest I don't think it would be needed for this. Worth the money.
It is a very beautiful place easy to be reached. Temp of 12° C so a jacket is needed. Max tour inside approx of 40 min. The road inside the mines is a special experience. Bogdan was a careful guide moreover careful and experienced driver. Everything was according the mentioned program
Mine was amazing a little on the chilly side but that's to be expected, loads to do for the kids too, my husband and i really enjoyed it.
The caves were awesome and the transport to the location was comfortable. Sonia was an amazing tour guide!
I enjoyed the salt mine and would recommend it. It was a good experience with lots to see. Bring a jacket though.
The driver is on a schedule so you must be on time meeting outside by the taxis on the boulevard by Hotel Bucharest. They stop 15 minutes on the way there and also on the return (2 hour drive each way).They only play a short 2 minute video so you need to read about the mine when you get there. Bring a jacket it’s about 50 degrees inside you will get cold. There is a gift shop, interesting salt sculptures, tools that they used in the mine, a cafe, large children’s play area, and some games like ping pong, pool to play. It takes about 10 minutes to drive you down into the mine which is quite spectacular to see and is very large. You can do the tour in under 90 minutes which leaves you time to get back to the van for the return. There is also a cafe outside if you need a place afterwards. Very worthwhile to see it.
The mine is very beautiful and evocative, it is worth visiting. Unfortunately, the description of the excursion was not correct; it clearly indicated the presence of an "English-speaking guide," but at the beginning of the tour, we discover that there was no guide. It would have been more accurate to indicate "English-speaking driver."

No complains, we were picked up at the Grand Hotel Bucharest, brought to the mine and taken back to the same location in the city. The driver was stopping on the way so that we could get snacks and use the bathroom. Everything was great!
