Of het nu gaat om een romantische date, een speciaal feest of quality time met familie en vrienden, onze Sunset Sail/Dinner Cruise neemt je mee op een onvergetelijke reis die je voor altijd zult delen aan boord van het enige luxe tallship van de regio. Uw superjachtervaring begint als we vertrekken vanuit Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) en koers zetten naar de rust van de kalme havenwateren van Singapore. Terwijl de bemanning de masten beklimt om uit te varen, vouwt de zee zich rond uw eigen privétafel op het bovendek met de traditionele tuigage van dit luxe Tall Ship met 4 masten en 22 zeilen dat boven uw hoofd uittorent, waardoor een werkelijk unieke sfeer ontstaat als geen ander! Met een Grand Salon met airconditioning op het hoofddek, twee premium bars, een vliegende stoel en zorgvuldig geselecteerd entertainment, hebben onze havencruises alle ingrediënten voor een perfecte avond aan boord van ons geweldige superjacht. Siloso Point is gescheiden van Labrador Park op het vasteland van Singapore door minder dan een halve kilometer zee. Deze nabijheid heeft een legende gevoed over een onderzeese tunnel die Britse forten en artilleriebatterijen op beide locaties met elkaar verbindt. Ondanks talrijke opgravingen en restauraties is er geen tunnel gevonden en komen er geen voor op kaarten of documenten. De namen van plaatsen en natuurlijke kenmerken op Blakang Mati weerspiegelen de lokale gemeenschappen, de economische en sociale geschiedenis, evenals de flora en fauna van het eiland. In de buurt van waar Fort Siloso staat, was vandaag de dag een gebied dat bekend staat als Sarang Rimau, Tiger’s den in Maleis, gebruikt door de Orang Laut om hun kennis van het gebied weer te geven.
Siloso Beach, één van de drie stranden met zwemlagunes die in de jaren 1970 en 1980 door Sentosa Development Corporation, SDC, zijn aangelegd, heeft een rijke geschiedenis. De naam komt van het Maleise woord voor “rots”, aanvankelijk een strategisch verdedigingspunt. Het werd omgetoverd tot een levendige toeristische hotspot in de jaren 1970. Vandaag de dag staat Siloso Beach bekend om zijn beachvolleybal, watersport en bruisende nachtleven, waar de energie nooit vervaagt en de feesten blijven doorgaan.
Palawan Beach, is vernoemd naar het Maleise woord “Pahlawan,” wat krijger of held betekent. Tijdens de koloniale periode bezochten Britse soldaten Palawan Beach om zwemmers te beschermen tegen frequente waarnemingen van haaien en zoutwaterkrokodillen. De Britten bouwden haaienhekken die in het Maleis bekend stonden als “zwemmende pagars”. Gelukkig zijn deze roofdieren niet meer te vinden rond Sentosa, waardoor het tegenwoordig een veilige en plezierige plek is voor strandgangers.
In 2003 werd Sentosa Cove gelanceerd als een omheinde enclave van 117 hectare met 2600 woningen, waaronder villa's, herenhuizen en condominiums aan de oceaan. Van de 117 hectare is 100 hectare teruggewonnen land. Het gebied omvat vijf kunstmatige eilanden Coral Island, Paradise Island, Treasure Island, Sandy Island en Pearl Island, meestal gereserveerd voor bungalows. De woonontwikkelingen zijn geclusterd in het noordelijke en zuidelijke district. In juni 2015 huisvestte Sentosa Cove meer dan 5000 bewoners die in 2160 woningen woonden, voornamelijk condominiums, rijtjeshuizen en bungalows.
Lazarus Island, ooit bekend als Pulau Sakijang Pelepah, wat eiland van herten en palmen in het Maleis betekent, huisvestte eind 19e eeuw gevangenisschuren. Deze werden verlaten na de gedurfde ontsnapping van een gevangene. Tegenwoordig trekt het eiland bezoekers naar zijn schone, witte zandstrand aan een C-vormige lagune die bekend staat als een van Singapores best bewaarde geheimen. Lazarus Island is een van de weinige plekken op de zuidelijke eilanden waar privéjachten en boten voor anker kunnen gaan, waardoor bezoekers kunnen genieten van de ongerepte stranden en ongerepte schoonheid.

Food was lovely although you might want to encourage the chef not to hover over passengers while they are selecting their food. Wine quality was terrible. Flowers were beautiful. BUT seriously people stop with all the marketing emails. I signed up with Trip Advisor not with you. But you are abusing the access to send me way too many emails. Over 30 odd. And when I ask you to stop you then sent me two on the same day. So I asked again. And now you send me 3 of the same. Which is why I have rated this experience so poorly.

I went on this lovely cruise as a birthday surprise invitation by my wife. The ship is beautiful, well maintained, and the staff were generally kind and courteous. The food was also tasty, albeit some portions were somewhat small. (Par for the course in Singapore). While the service was good, I found that the service staff is not empowered to do what is necessary to delight the customer. For example, I was set to order a Long Island ice tea but I didn’t like Cuervo tequila and asked nicely if they would use Don Julio instead. The waiter looked at me as if I was from Mars, but he proceeded to tell me that he would have to check with his manager! He came back in a few minutes and promptly told me “So sorry, cannot”. At $25 dollars per drink, I would have expected a bit more flexibility and accommodation. If your business is in the hospitality industry, then this shouldn’t be such a difficult guest request. Similarly situation occurred as I asked for a 2nd roll of bread. There seems to be a scarcity mindset on board, which is incongruent with general principles of hospitality. I would have been more inclined to order more drinks if I the manager had been a bit more thoughtful and accommodating.

The overall experience is just great. It’s a nice cruise, and all the catering staff is very attentive if you need anything. Buffet food can be a hit and miss, but no complaints here as the food was good quality as were the free flow drinks. Special thanks to Captain Mike Willie and his crew who are not only sailing the ship, but also interacting with the guests. And thanks to him for answering my nautical question as well. It is good to know that this cruise does not take place under sail, but with engine power. For sure there are operational reasons for that. If you’re looking a pure sailing cruise, do enquire before if it will be under sail or under engine power.
