Beste reizigers welkom in Athene! Ontsnap aan de drukte van Athene en ontdek Korinthe, een land waar mythe en geschiedenis elkaar ontmoeten, op slechts een uur rijden. Begin bij het ontzagwekkende Kanaal van Korinthe, waar de Egeïsche en Ionische zeeën zich verenigen door een van 's werelds grootste technische hoogstandjes. Voor degenen die kiezen voor de optie rondvaarten over de grachten is varen tussen de torenhoge kliffen een unieke ervaring. Ga verder naar het oude Korinthe, ooit een machtige stad waar tempels, fonteinen en markten floreerden en waar apostel Paulus 18 maanden lang zijn leer verspreidde. Het fort van Acrocorinthe verheft zich boven je en nodigt je uit om een legendarisch bolwerk te verkennen dat verbonden is met Pegasus, Medea en tijdloze Griekse mythen! Bewonder onderweg het platteland, de kustlijn en de bergen van de Peloponnesos en geniet van een traditionele lunch in het rustige dorpje Ancient Corinth. Nadat uw chauffeur u heeft opgehaald bij uw accommodatie volgt een prachtige schilderachtige kustrit naar Korinthe, die ongeveer 50 minuten duurt. Bij het naderen van het oude Korinthe maken we een stop om dit wonder van techniek te bewonderen, het Kanaal van Korinthe.
Na het geweldige uitzicht op het kanaal en op weg naar het oude Korinthe gaan we naar de westelijke ingang van het kanaal om de beroemde diolkos te zien, gebouwd rond de 6e eeuw v.Chr. Een oude geplaveide spoorbaan waar ze schepen van het ene waterlichaam naar het andere sleepten. Een waar wonder van oude Griekse technologie.
De oude stad Korinthe neemt een belangrijke plaats in in de Griekse geschiedenis vanwege haar strategische ligging, bloeiende handel en invloedrijke cultuur. Gelegen tussen de Ionische Zee en de Egeïsche Zee, controleerde Korinthe de smalle landengte, een belangrijke handelsroute die de Middellandse Zee en de Zwarte Zee verbond en de oprichtingslocatie van de Isthmische Spelen. Het had een sterke militaire aanwezigheid als strategische locatie voor vele oorlogen in de loop van haar oude geschiedenis en het onderging een reeks politieke veranderingen, afwisselend tussen periodes van onafhankelijkheid, Spartaanse controle en overheersing door andere regionale machten. Zelfs na een periode van achteruitgang tijdens de Romeinse verovering, behield het zijn culturele belang totdat het een belangrijk stadsvernieuwingsproject onderging dat werd geïnitieerd door Julius Caesar en later werd voltooid door keizer Augustus. De stad werd herbouwd in een Romeinse bouwstijl, inclusief tempels, basilieken en een forum. Het werd de hoofdstad van de Romeinse provincie Achaea en een bruisend kosmopolitisch centrum.
Nu het grootste kasteel in zuidelijk Griekenland. De acropolis van Korinthe, dit machtige fort op 700m boven de zeespiegel geeft u een prachtig uitzicht op de Korinthische en Saronische Golf die met elkaar verbonden zijn door het kanaal.
Nu een heerlijke Griekse lunch in het rustige dorpje Oud-Korinthe in een traditionele familietaverna en dan terugrijden naar Athene.

excellent, very knowledgeable guide who made the best of fact that the Corinth Canal has been closed for maintenance longer than was expected so a cruise was not possible unfortunately Alexander gave us a very detailed and enjoyable guided tour that is highly recommended. From the Greek Mythology to the Roman Empire and the present day it is very enjoyable and a lot is covered in a relatively short period of time.

This tour deserves a 5+ rating! Alexander provided an amazing tour. He was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Greece and all of the places that we visited. We couldn't transit the Corinth Canal due to repair work from landslides last year, but Alexander reached out to us before our trip and suggested that we add in a trip to ancient Mycenae instead. All of the sites were simply amazing. In ancient Corinth, Alexander arranged a private tour guide for us that covered the footsteps of Apostle Paul in Corinth. Kristina was also fantastic, and extremely knowledgeable. We stopped mid-day and had a wonderful meal right of the seashore. I can't say enough good things about this tour and Alexander. It was a terrific day!

We had a fantastic day with Alexander who was extremely knowledgeable and shared so much information in a fun and enthusiastic way. We learned about the places visited and had a wonderful education on Greek mythology which Alexander brought alive! We were unable to take a cruise on the Corinth canal due to renovations taking place but Alexander ensured we saw the canal from the best viewpoints and had the chance to visit other interesting places. Ancient Corinth is not to be missed! We would highly recommend this tour - you will not regret a day spent in Alexander’s company - he also gave some great tips for the rest of our time in Athens.

This was such a fabulous tour. Alexander is such a good guide, very friendly, professional, helpful and very knowledgeable. We learnt such a lot about the area and Greece in general. The journey was comfortable and interesting and all of the stops were well worth seeing. The Corinth Canal is a must see sight and was on our bucket list! The Acrocorinth is a truly amazing fortress, we were lucky with the weather and saw some amazing views from the top. Alexander gave us plenty of time for breaks and to fully enjoy all of the sights. We would definitely use him again if we are back in Athens.
