Rondleiding Gjirokaster, Blue Eye & Lekursi Castle

Het fascinerende oude centrum van Gjirokaster staat op de Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO. Grotendeels middeleeuws, met een aantal prachtige architectuur te bewonderen, die het rijke verleden van de stad weerspiegelt, is het gebouwd op een heuvel met uitzicht op een vallei en bergen. Dit interessante museum zal een goede indruk geven van de manier van leven in Albanië tijdens de Ottomaanse periode. Op de terugweg naar Saranda komen we langs het nationale park Syri I Kalter. In dit vredige bos wandelen we (15 min) naar de kristalheldere bron genaamd Blue Eye, waar 900 m3 water per minuut van diep uit de aarde komt. Als de tijd het toelaat, is er een korte koffiepauze in het restaurant naast de snelstromende rivier in het park, voordat u teruggaat naar de haven van Saranda.

Eerste stop is in Gjirokaster (Oude Stad) Gedefinieerd door zijn kasteel, wegen geplaveid met dikke kalksteen en schalie, imposante huizen met leien daken en uitzicht op de Drina-vallei, Gjirokastra is een magische heuvel stad prachtig beschreven door Albanië's beroemdste auteur, Ismail Kadare (b 1936), in Kroniek in Steen. Er is hier al 2500 jaar een nederzetting, hoewel het tegenwoordig de 600 'monumentale' Ottomaanse huizen in de stad zijn die bezoekers trekken. Voor Albanezen is de stad ook synoniem met voormalig dictator Enver Hoxha, die hier geboren is en ervoor zorgde dat de stad relatief goed bewaard bleef onder zijn bewind, hoewel hij hier vandaag de dag op geen enkele manier wordt herdacht.
Tweede stop: Blue Eye. Het beroemde Blauwe Oog van Albanië (Syri i kaltër) is een waterbron en natuurfenomeen dat elke bezoeker moet aanschouwen. Een populaire toeristische attractie, de prachtige licht turquoise rivier verbijstert met zijn schoonheid. Gelegen in de buurt van Muzinë in de Albanese provincie Vlorë, wilt u een auto huren om bij het beroemde Blauwe Oog te komen. Na het volgen van de borden en het oversteken van de brug (waar je een kleine vergoeding betaalt), kom je een parkeerplaats en een voetpad tegen dat naar het Blauwe Oog leidt. U wordt eerst betoverd door het omringende dichte bos en de prachtige lichtblauwe rivier die door dit natuurparadijs stroomt. The Blue Eye bevindt zich onder een klein metalen balkon dat werd gebouwd zodat je het van dichtbij kunt bekijken. Ook al is zwemmen verboden via borden, het weerhoudt mensen er niet echt van om recht in het ijskoude water te springen.
Derde halte: Kasteel van Lekuresi Verken ten slotte het kasteel van Lekuresi, met een panoramisch uitzicht op het omliggende platteland.

It was really a top experience! Both the tour guide and the bus driver were incredibly friendly and helpful. They took their time for everyone, were very patient and gave clear explanations. The atmosphere in the group was super cozy, partly thanks to our tour guide Jonah, who really made it something special. Everything was well organized and you immediately felt welcome. This tour is definitely recommended. If you are in Sarandë, you really can't miss this! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Nice combination of activities. Great transport with AC. Tourguide Jonah does this every day, but still remains enthusiastic. The time in Gjirokaster is a bit short if you want to go to the fortress and quite long if you don't.
The tour was great. Jona was a very knowledgeable and engaging tour guide and made the experience very interesting. There was a good amount of free time to explore the sites within the overall itinerary, and we managed to fit a lot into the day.

If you are in Sarande I would recommend Leka Tours. They took me to Gjirokaster, Blue Eye, and Lekursi castle. The tour guide was very friendly and welcoming. She is extremely knowledgeable. I learnt a lot about the history, geography and culture of Albania from her. The tour was educational and informative. Also the customer service is very good. I made the booking last minute, Leka Tours responded quick and was able to give me a tour the next day. Thank you Leka Tours for making this trip memorable. The duration of the tour is 7 hours or more not 5 to 6 as advertised. This makes it difficult to use as a shore expedition unless your ship is staying very late. The tour itself is fine but the van rides are quite long and the tour guide says little during these. The stops are enjoyable but far from outstanding. Our tour guide was friendly and helpful when we needed special arrangements for drop off.

She shared a lot of interesting information throughout the day and made sure everyone felt comfortable and enjoyed the experience. Gjirokastra is absolutely beautiful and definitely worth visiting. The Blue Eye is a must-see, with its stunning crystal-clear water, and the panoramic view from Lekursi Castle is truly unforgettable.
