Als u deze tour boekt, krijgt u vóór de drukte een speciale VIP-toegang tot het Musem. Mis de kans niet om de Sixtijnse Kapel bijna leeg te zien! Je waagt je door de muren van de kleinste soevereine staat ter wereld en met een audiogids vervolg je de tour langs de Vaticaanse Musea om de meesterwerken te zien van beroemde renaissance- en oud-Griekse en klassieke Rome-kunstenaars (Raphael, Pinturicchio, Michelangelo) . Je wordt omringd door een adembenemende sfeer: eeuwenoude beelden, mozaïeken, wandtapijten en kaarten waar de paus zo van hield als decoratie van zijn eigen prachtige paleis. Belangrijk: strikte dresscode in het Vaticaan. Geen korte broek. Schouders en knieën moeten bedekt zijn. LET OP: u kunt ook vragen om een privé-ophaalchauffeur die rechtstreeks naar uw accommodatie komt, tegen een vergoeding van 90 euro.

We got a message from the local tour company the afternoon before our Vatican tour that our guide was sick. The next morning the prearranged driver picked us up and took us to the Vatican and an agency staff member met us at the entrance and guided us in. She gave us money for audio guides and left. We ended up doing a ‘self-guided’ tour for the expensive price of a private guided tour - I was just grateful that we were able to visit the Vatican. Our tour earlier this week to the Colosseum was cancelled (also the day before the tour) by another local agency because of a shortage of guides. We’ve been extremely disappointed with Viator because you are ultimately responsible for these problems. On our next trip we’ll definitely choose a different travel company.

The meeting point for us was at the small travel agency just a couple blocks from the Vatican. We arrived 40 minutes before our tour was supposed to start on a very chilly Saturday morning. When our taxi dropped us at the door we were worried we were in the wrong location. The lights were off, and there was no one on the street. We wondered around the corner to find a coffee shop and decided to grab some pastries and warm up. We found our way back and around 7:20 we saw a man walking towards us. He let us in and shortly our tour guide Roberto showed. The other family who was scheduled was a no show so we ended up with a completely private tour! Roberto reminded us of George Clooney. He was very knowledgeable and had much charisma. On our walk to the Vatican he was pointing out the extremely long line that was rapidly forming and assured us that we would not have to wait. He was a gem and honestly it was worth every Penney to skip the line and have a knowledgeable guide lead the way. Starting at 7:30 was perfect because we ended around 11:30 and by the time we were actually out (after our photoshoot) it made perfect timing to find a spot for lunch!
