Het gebouw heette oorspronkelijk Porta Flaminia, maar staat nu officieel bekend als Porta del Popolo. Paus Pius IV gaf de beroemde kunstenaar Michelangelo in 1562 de opdracht om het te ontwerpen. Michelangelo delegeerde de taak echter aan de architect Nanni di Baccio Bigio die de bouw in drie jaar voltooide, en het werd voltooid in 1565.
De Spaanse Trappen dateren uit 1723 en zijn een reeks trappen die een steile helling beklimmen die het Piazza di Spagna aan de voet van de heuvel verbindt met het Piazza Trinità dei Monti op de top. Ook vandaag de dag zijn de Spaanse Trappen nog steeds een populaire attractie voor kunstenaars, schilders en dichters, net als vroeger.
Trevifontein is een essentiële bestemming voor iedereen die Rome bezoekt. Beschouwd als de mooiste fontein ter wereld, is het een adembenemend gezicht om te aanschouwen. Het Pantheon is een van de meest opmerkelijke oude gebouwen in Rome, Italië. Gebouwd tussen 25 en 27 v.Chr. als tempel voor heidense goden, heeft het de tand des tijds doorstaan en is tot op de dag van vandaag vrijwel intact gebleven. De tempel werd voltooid door Hadrianus in 126 AD, en sinds de 7e eeuw wordt het gebruikt als een kerk gewijd aan St. Maria en Martelaren. Het Pantheon is een fascinerend architectonisch hoogstandje, met een massieve koepel met een centrale opening genaamd een oculus die natuurlijk licht binnenlaat. Piazza Navona is het typische elegante vitrineplein van Rome, vol met prachtige fonteinen en barokke Palazzi. De oorsprong gaat terug tot de 1e eeuw toen het bekend stond als het Stadio di Domiziano. In de 15e eeuw was de site echter verhard en veranderd in een bruisende marktplaats, die bijna 300 jaar lang diende als het belangrijkste commerciële centrum van de stad. We had a wonderful experience on our walking tour! Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly and even gave us recommendations for places to see and good food in the area. We would definitely recommend this tour.

No headsets as described. Although we stopped at all the spots very little dialogue and activity felt very rushed.
This experience was wonderful. Andrea our tour guide was so sweet and was super knowledgable about the history of Rome. She was so patient and answered any questions my husband or I had. She also waited for us to walk to the start site after some confusion with the start time of the tour. She was gracious to call us and let us know that the tour would be at the start time and informed us of her location to meet her since others had cancelled and it would be just us with her . I would recommend taking this tour with Andrea.
Only 2 of us showed up for this but our tour-guide did not cancel and that was wonderful! It was like a private tour. We also had our guide take us to the top of a restaurant his friend owned for another very cool view of the Trevi Fountain! I really liked this tour, our guide, and how customized it felt. Since there was only 2 of us, he leaned into what we knew about Rome, what we didn't know and really wanted to make our trip special by making recommendations in various areas. He also always offered to take photos of us at several stops. I wish I had written down our tour guide's name, but he was from Egypt but had lived in Rome many years and he was just so kind and engaging. There's a lot of walking on this tour, obviously, but it's mostly very flat. The cost to get into & close to the fountain is not included but it was only 2 euros. I recommend planning to get dinner or a treat right before or after the tour - especially at the end, there are tons of restaurants in the area where the tour ends.
