Je gaat rechtstreeks naar de Sixtijnse Kapel met een speciale toegang door de Kamer van de Aldobrandini Bruiloft, voorheen bekend als de Kamer van Samson vanwege de plafondschilderingen van Guido Reni die de Verhalen van Samson vertellen. Deze kamer is meestal dichtbij het publiek.
De Sixtijnse kapel ontleent zijn naam aan Paus Sixtus IV della Rovere (paus van 1471 tot 1484), die de oude Cappella Magna had laten restaureren tussen 1477 en 1480. Het is wereldwijd bekend als de plaats waar het conclaaf en andere officiële plechtigheden van de paus wordt (in het verleden ook een aantal pauselijke kroningen) gehouden en wordt versierd met een van de beroemdste en meest gevierde kunstwerken van de artistieke beschaving, de fresco's van Michelangelo
Geniet van de adembenemende Sint-Pietersbasiliek, schrijn van het christendom en de kunst. U zult zich vergapen aan de Priceless Pietà, door Michelangelo, en stoppen bij het eerbiedwaardige graf van Saint John Paul II en paus Karol Wojtyla.
De Pietà is een kunstwerk uit de Renaissance van Michelangelo Buonarroti, gehuisvest in de Sint-Pietersbasiliek, Vaticaanstad. Het is de eerste van een aantal werken met hetzelfde thema van de kunstenaar. Het beeld werd gemaakt in opdracht van de Franse kardinaal Jean de Bilhères, die een vertegenwoordiger was in Rome. Het beeld, in Carrara-marmer, werd gemaakt voor het begrafenismonument van de kardinaal, maar werd verplaatst naar de huidige locatie, de eerste kapel aan de rechterkant als men de basiliek binnengaat, in de 18e eeuw. Het is het enige stuk dat Michelangelo ooit heeft getekend.
Deze monumentale elliptische ruimte, omsloten door 284 Dorische zuilen vier rijen diep (196 m breed en 148 m lang), is het meesterwerk van Gian Lorenzo Bernini, die het tijdens de pontificaten van Alexander VII en Clemens IX uiteen heeft gezet.

We visited Rome for three days and we have been extremely lucky to be in the company of the amazingly knowledgeable, dainty yet hands on guide Eleonora Federici who took us to Vatican City then walked us through the amazingly rich and beautiful history of the Vatican. My partner and I did a tour of the Vatican Gardens, Museum and St Peter's Basilica (the first two with a Vatican staff member and the last with an Eyes of Rome employee Denis). We had a great time, the gardens and the Basilica being particular highlights. Both the guides were extremely knowledgeable, informative, easy going and fun. We had great half day and would thoroughly recommend this event to anyone, particularly those who fancy the tour of the more secluded gardens!

We were picked up in a private car at our hotel and brought directly to the Vatican. That tour lasted about 30 mins. Then after a fair walk to the Vatican Museum, then into the gardens. Wow! No words. If you have ever wanted to see these gardens in a private setting, this the way. My wife and I were guided by a member of the research staff of the Vatican archives, and she was beyond compare. It was as if the Pope would be walking around the corner at any moment. Forget the price, just do it!!!

We had the pleasure of visiting the Vatican on April 2, 2022, with Azzurra Della Seta (Blue) as our personal tour guide. We appreciated her setting the stage for the museums and Sistine chapel before we started the actual tour. She carried with her a tablet which was a photo resource that enriched her stories and her responses to our questions. She is personable, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and a great communicator. She tailored the tour to our interests. It was easy to remain engaged during the 4-hour tour.
