De Basiliek van San Clemente in Rome is een opmerkelijke site, bekend om zijn unieke architectonische structuur die meerdere historische lagen omvat, die bijna 2000 jaar Romeinse geschiedenis weerspiegelt. San Clemente ligt in de buurt van het Colosseum en is een van de beste voorbeelden van de gelaagde geschiedenis van Rome, met een 12e-eeuwse basiliek gebouwd over een 4e-eeuwse christelijke kerk, die zelf werd gebouwd bovenop een 1e-eeuws Romeins gebouwencomplex. De Caeliaanse heuvel is een van de zeven heuvels waarop het oude Rome werd gesticht. De Romeinse huizen op de Celio heuvel zijn een buitengewone archeologische site gelegen onder de basiliek van Santi Giovanni e Paolo op de Celio heuvel van Rome. De Romeinse huizen op de Celio heuvel (Case Romane del Celio) zijn een buitengewone archeologische site gelegen onder de Basiliek van Santi Giovanni e Paolo op de Celio heuvel van Rome. Serena was an amazing guide for our Underground Rome tour! She was especially wonderful with our 10-year-old—engaging, knowledgeable, and great at keeping our whole family of three interested throughout San Clemente and the Case Romane del Celio. She also gave us an excellent lunch recommendation and knew all the “secret AC” spots to help us stay cool. We highly recommend Serena for families!
It was my first time visiting Rome and this great tour really inspired me to use my imagination and dive into a different historical time. This would not have been possible without our guide Alessandro whose professionalism and passion made every detail interesting and easy to understand. I can highly recommend to anyone who would like to have a short break from the commercial sightseeing spots and feel like an explorer of the Underworld of Ancient Rome instead!

What an incredible experience to really see the real ancient rome away from the crowds. This was such a delight in that the places we went to we had to ourselves and the opportunity to explore as well as really soak in the experience. Alessandro was amazing and his archeological experience bought it even more to life. It was wonderful sifting through the 'fiction' to the facts as well as being able to see Rome as the empire it was. If you want to avoid the crowds and deepen your knowledge of Rome and get off the tourist track this tour is a MUST!
Allessandro combines amazing detail and passion as he takes you down below street level on this awesome tour. He goes out of his way to bring history to life - he started his tour saying "I'm going to ask you many times to use your imagination" - however - he is so well prepared and knowledgable that what you find yourself doing is actually 'being there' in the past. The destinations are rich - visually and historically. What I also liked was as we walked along to the destinations he was able to speak about other things along the route - I was really impressed by the Ludus Magnus outside the Colosseum and how he explained its structure and function - this was a bonus! Allessandro is a lovely host, intellectually curious, engaging and is really interested to know what you think and feel about what you are seeing as well. Subsequent to this tour i joined a longer multi city tour throughout Italy - the 'local experts' engaged by that tour company were superficial compared to Allessandro. It is rare to spend time with someone who lives and breathes this stuffand invests time to go into the detail - and he is a cool guy as well! Highly recommended for something more substantial and the history buffs.

We were lucky enough to get Allessandro as our guide and he was brilliant. He explained everything so thoroughly and made our tour very interesting. It was a small group and there were no queues. This part of Rome is well worth seeing.

We had a great tour. The guide was very knowledgeable and provided a ton of interesting information.
This tour takes you away from the crowds and shows you so much of the history of Rome. Imagine 3 levels of church built on top of each other from pagan to early Christian in 3rd century BC. Goes underground to see incredible early murals , and normal early Roman homes. I would not have missed this for anything. The guide Was an archeologist with an amazing level of knowledge and passion. Do yourself a favour and take time to do this tour.

Unique tour that leaves no questions unanswered! We have already done some tours in Rome, but none is as recommended as this: small group, detail-oriented, historical and archaeological at the highest level. Alessandro's knowledge and enthusiasm are second to none and so we were in the middle of it (in ancient Rome) instead of just being there!
