We duiken in de donkerste verhalen van de stad – gruwelijke misdaden, griezelige spookverhalen en brutale executies – terwijl we ons weven in de geschiedenis van het Romeinse Rijk en de Renaissance. Je wandelt door schaduwrijke steegjes, hoort over wraakzuchtige geesten en ontdekt de huiveringwekkende geheimen die achter de prachtige gevels van Rome schuilgaan. We eindigen in Campo de’ Fiori, ooit een openbare executieplaats, waar we de angstaanjagende realiteit tot leven brengen van degenen die daar hun lot hebben getroffen. Bij Castel Sant’Angelo geven we een uitgebreide uitleg over de geschiedenis en betekenis ervan. We bespreken de executies die daar plaatsvonden en werpen licht op de rol ervan als gevangenis en plaats van straf. We behandelen ook de versterkte gang, de Passetto di Borgo, die het kasteel met het Vaticaan verbindt, wat het belang benadrukt als vluchtroute voor pausen in tijden van gevaar. Daarnaast onderzoeken we de rivier de Tiber, die een cruciale rol heeft gespeeld in de verdediging en ontwikkeling van Rome. Tenslotte verkennen we het verhaal van Sint Michaël de Aartsengel, wiens verschijning boven op het kasteel in 590 na Christus het einde betekende van een verwoestende plaag, waaraan het fort zijn naam te danken heeft.
Via Giulia, een van de meest elegante en historische straten van Rome, werd ontworpen door paus Julius II in het begin van de 16e eeuw om een directe route door de stad te creëren. Bekleed met Renaissance paleizen, kerken en verborgen binnenplaatsen, blijft het een schilderachtig voorbeeld van de stedelijke transformatie van Rome tijdens de Renaissance.
Piazza Farnese is een prachtig en historisch plein in Rome, vooral bekend om Palazzo Farnese, een groots Renaissancepaleis ontworpen door beroemde architecten als Michelangelo. Het plein heeft ook twee grote fonteinen gemaakt van oude Romeinse badkuipen, waardoor het een unieke en elegante uitstraling heeft.
Piazza del Biscione is een klein, verborgen plein in de buurt van Campo de' Fiori, bekend om zijn oude charme en rustige sfeer. Het is de thuisbasis van de oude Passetto del Biscione, een overdekte doorgang met overblijfselen van middeleeuwse fresco's, toe te voegen aan zijn mysterieuze en historische karakter.
Campo de 'Fiori is een levendig plein in Rome, bekend om zijn dagelijkse markt met verse producten, bloemen en lokale goederen. 'S Nachts wordt het een populaire plek voor restaurants en bars, met het standbeeld van filosoof Giordano Bruno in het centrum als herinnering aan zijn donkere geschiedenis.

We had a fun tour with Emily. She took us to some interesting spots in central Rome with some spooky stories. She was enthusiastic and was happy to answer any questions we had. We visited some spots that we wouldn't have found otherwise. She gave us some tips on restaurants and gelato spots to visit later. It was a great walking tour to do on our first night in Rome. Booked the “Rome After Dark” tour with Sevada, and had a wonderful experience. She is as knowledgeable about the history of Rome as she is funny and engaging! Would highly recommend as a relaxed late night activity. Also includes great views of historical buildings/statues around the city center!

Absolutely loved this little tour, Our tour guide was Sevada, she was a wealth of knowledge that you don’t hear about. You don’t walk far and you see bits that you just miss on your own. Sevada even got us in to a restaurant to see an absolute gem, that you would otherwise 100% miss on your own. I really wish this went on for longer.

This was a great tour. It was refreshing that it wasn’t for hours and it covered a small area by foot (as we were shattered from walking all day) however it was fantastic! The stories that were told, the ones you don’t hear about! The secret spots that books don’t mention. Emilie was our guide, she was great and very knowledgeable. If you want something a bit different that gives you a glimpse of how life was this is the thing to do! It’s also a great evening activity that breaks up the night! Definitely recommend.
