Geniet van de sfeer van een van de meest adembenemende toeristische bestemmingen van Ierland, iconisch in zijn historische betekenis. Deze unieke en sfeervolle plek zal ongetwijfeld blijvende herinneringen creëren. The Rock of Cashel beschikt over de meest opmerkelijke verzameling middeleeuwse bouwwerken in Ierland. Onder de historische schatten die het herbergt, vind je een ronde toren, een imposant hoog kruis, een romaanse kapel, een majestueuze gotische kathedraal, een oude abdij, de vooraanstaande zaal van het predikantenkoor en een torenhuis uit de vijftiende eeuw. Oorspronkelijk diende het als de koninklijke zetel van de Munster-koningen, maar volgens de legende is zelfs St. Patrick zelf hierheen gereisd om koning Aenghus tot het christendom te bekeren. In 978 werd Brian Boru gekroond tot Hoge Koning in Cashel, waardoor het zijn hoofdstad werd. Er zal een gelegenheid zijn om de indrukwekkende Cormac's Chapel te bezoeken - een van de beste voorbeelden van 12e-eeuwse romaanse architectuur in Ierland met de enige overgebleven romaanse fresco's in Ierland.
Bezoek een van de grootste en best bewaarde kastelen van Ierland, dat zijn indrukwekkende donjon, toren en veel van zijn oorspronkelijke verdedigingsstructuur uit de 14e eeuw heeft behouden. Loop langs de rivier de Suir en geniet uiteindelijk van de Movie Garden langs de muren van het kasteel, met het kasteel als locatie voor vele beroemde films, waaronder The Last Duel, The Tudors, Excalibur en anderen.
We bezoeken het prachtige "fantasie" huisje met rieten dak dat werd gebruikt voor het ontvangen van gasten door Lord en Lady Cahir. Binnen vind je prachtig ingerichte kamers met de mooiste meubels, speciaal gemaakt voor het huisje, handgeschilderde muurschilderingen en het eerste en destijds duurste behang ter wereld.

Great experience on our trip to Ireland with our tour guide Ray McNicholas! Ray is a great resource for all things Ireland. The Rock of Cashel was beautiful and full of rich Irish history. Would recommend everybody that has not been there to take the time and go.
We had a private tour from Dublin to Rock of Cashel, Cahir Castle, the Swiss Cottage, the towns of Cashel and Cahir; and enjoyed the absolutely beautiful countryside along the way. Our guide/driver, Rory, was fantastic - charming, knowledgeable - a delightful person with whom to spend the day. We loved our tour!!!

Rock of Cashel, Cahir Castle, Swiss Cottage Diana was a great guide. She had checked the weather so we rearranged the order we would see the sights. The Swiss Cottage was such a surprise (a hidden gem)! Cahir Castle was so interesting and picturesque! We loved all the history. Then we had a lovely lunch down the street from the castle. Next was the Rock of Cashel (our big site for the day!). So happy we saw this last as the rain was gone & we had beautiful weather. We were totally amazed & in awe of this historical site. This day was packed full of beauty & history! We enjoyed the full day. Diana was punctual, very informative, and prepared. Transportation in the vehicle was very comfortable. We would highly recommend this trip!!

My husband and I had wonderful day with Diana. The weather improved after a prompt and early pickup and the beauty of the Irish landscape offered lovely views. We managed everything on our customized itinerary and found our guide to be friendly, considerate and easy to talk to. In this way we travelled in comfort, saw the sights and gained insights from our knowledgeable driver. After good food and memorable stops for photos, and a ramble through Kilkenny, a tour through beautiful Swiss Cottage we made our way to our B&B on Cashel.
