Deze tour wordt geleid door iemand die geboren en getogen is in Rocinha en al meer dan een decennium door deze straten loopt met bezoekers. Het verschil is niet toegang omwille van nieuwheid, maar context. In plaats van scripted stops of dramatische framing, ligt de focus op hoe de favela eigenlijk werkt : de lay-out, dagelijkse routines, sociale dynamiek en geschiedenis als een levende buurt. De route volgt plaatsen die lokaal zinvol zijn, geleid door vertrouwdheid in plaats van performance. Omdat dit een lokaal begeleide, kleine groepservaring is, beweegt de tour in een menselijk tempo. Vragen zijn welkom, gesprekken zijn open en verklaringen komen uit geleefde ervaringen, niet uit tweedehands onderzoek of ingestudeerde verhalen. Dit gaat niet over het verkopen van gevaar, armoede of spektakel. Het gaat erom Rocinha te begrijpen zoals het is, begeleid door iemand die hier thuishoort.

Na een ontmoeting met de gids, zal er een kort eerste gesprek zijn over hoe de tour werkt, vragen beantwoorden en basisregels. Hierna zullen de toeristen een educatieve sightseeing-wandeltocht helemaal naar beneden maken, met OPTIONELE plaatsen voor souvenirs (die dienen als donaties aan de favela), lunch in een lokaal familierestaurant en veel mooie plekken voor foto's. Herinnering: de rondleiding is UITSLUITEND in het Engels.

An Eye-Opening and Truly Authentic Experience in Rocinha Favela. I felt completely safe the entire time. Luiz was attentive, stayed with us closely, and made sure the small group of 6 moved smoothly.
My partner and I did this tour with Luiz a while ago and it is one of the best experiences I remember from Brazil. We were looking for a guided walk and led by a local person to learn for real. I highly recommend it!!

Our guide was so informative and nice to tour with. He even asked if we would wait a little for another couple who were running late. We waited and waited but in the end we had to leave. I believe the lady became very abusive on text and this was so unfair to our guide as we all waited for some time. It was their duty to turn up on time like we did. Anything she says in a review I would ignore, it is unjustified! He is brilliant, kind and patient.
I highly recommend this tour to anyone staying in Rio. We were a bit hesitant booking this tour but our guide luiz put our minds at rest and opened our eyes on life in a favela. I guarantee you will truly see what life is really like instead of what the films show you!
