Georges Island heeft een rijke geschiedenis. Het maakte deel uit van het "Halifax Defense Complex" van het midden van de 18e eeuw tot de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Interpretatieve panelen en gidsen delen een fascinerende geschiedenis vanaf de oudheid toen de Mi'kmaq aankwamen in Kjipuktuk, de 'Grote Haven', tot de komst van de Britten in 1749, tot de gevangenschap van Acadians tijdens de deportatie van 1755-63, en tot de bescherming van de stad tijdens de wereldoorlogen. Met dank aan Parks Canada kunt u deelnemen aan een rondleiding door de ondergrondse tunnels op het eiland. Reizigers kunnen een deel van de promenade van Halifax zien, een van 's werelds langste stedelijke promenades over de lengte van de waterkant - 4 kilometer (2,5 mijl).

Geniet van mooie uitzichten vanuit een nieuw perspectief en dompel jezelf onder in de rijke geschiedenis van Halifax. Het eiland is een glaciale drumlin en het grootste eiland dat volledig binnen de havengrenzen van de haven van Halifax ligt. U kunt het ondergrondse complex onder Fort Charlotte op Georges Island verkennen. Reizigers hebben een luchtfoto van de haven van Halifax en een deel van de promenade langs het water van Halifax. Reizigers kunnen 1 uur of 5 uur op het eiland doorbrengen. Ze kunnen picknicken en de tour doen of gewoon de tour doen en terugkomen op de volgende veerboot die weer aan land komt.

The history was amazing and the views were stunning. The ferry staff were friendly and helpful. Our fellow passengers were friendly.

A visit to George’s Island is a must when in Halifax. Both the above- and below-ground fortifications are well worth seeing. Angus, our guide for the underground portion, was well-versed in the history of the island, and was able to answer any and all questions thrown at him!
Very friendly, laid-back & accommodating staff on the boat & the island. Great tunnel tour, full of interesting information. Learned some new things that I hadn't already known (or remembered) from other tours. Like the option to buy a ticket for whatever time suits you, and then stay until the last boat. We stayed for two hours, but nice to know you could extend that if you wished, by going over earlier. Reminder to travellers that there are toilets on the island but no running water, so be sure to bring water (or snacks) if needed.
Short boat ride that circled the island. That was good. Geoges Island was wonderful to see. Not very busy!
Interesting history of the island. Enjoyed the tour of the tunnels, which was about 15 minutes. There is a remaining time was walking around the island. Lots of information.
