Begin je Sankofa Reis – een krachtige terugkeer naar je wortels. Ga verder naar Elmina Castle, de eerste Europese slavenhandelspost in Sub-Sahara Afrika, en Cape Coast Castle, een beklijvende herinnering aan veerkracht waar velen de Middenpassage begonnen. Ga op een krachtige en emotionele reis van herinnering en herverbinding. Bij aankomst zullen ze hetzelfde pad bewandelen dat ooit door de tot slaaf gemaakte Afrikanen werd bewandeld en dat leidt naar de Ndonkor Nsuo (Slavenrivier), waar gevangenen hun laatste bad moesten nemen voordat ze naar de kust werden vervoerd. Onder leiding van lokale historici zullen bezoekers deelnemen aan verhalen, traditionele rituelen en symbolische rituelen die de kracht en geest van hun voorouders eren. Het hoogtepunt van het bezoek is het Eerste Bad van Terugkeer – een symbolische reiniging in de rivier die staat voor spirituele vernieuwing, herverbinding met erfgoed en het begin van een helende reis. Onderweg zullen reizigers getuige zijn van gedenktekens, leren over de Ghanese cultuur en de diepgaande betekenis van deze heilige plek ervaren.
Bij Elmina Castle stappen reizigers in een van de oudste en belangrijkste Europese gebouwen in Afrika bezuiden de Sahara. Dit historische fort, gebouwd door de Portugezen in 1482, werd later een belangrijk knooppunt voor de trans-Atlantische slavenhandel. Bezoekers zullen donkere, smalle kerkers verkennen waar tot slaaf gemaakte Afrikanen werden vastgehouden, door de "Deur van Geen Terugkeer" lopen en in de vertrekken van de gouverneur staan die schril contrasteren met het lijden hieronder. Rondleidingen bieden krachtige verhalen over veerkracht en weerstand en bieden diepgaand inzicht in de menselijke impact van slavernij. De ligging aan zee van het kasteel biedt ook een spookachtig mooi decor voor reflectie, waardoor het bezoek een diepgaande en emotionele reis door de geschiedenis maakt.

I have coeliac disease and booked a trip through Guide to the Philippines for higher end accommodation because of that. Our first nights were at Citidines. The chef Teddy Castro looked after me from the start and made this a really good dining experience after showing him my gluten free cards. We then went to Coron. The staff were very helpful, thanks go out to Princess who took charge, but my food was very limited to plain rice, veges, eggs, meat and fruit. El Nido the chef Raymon looked after me but on his days off it was really hard communicating to the staff even though they had access to the gluten free cards jn Tagalog and English. Day trips none of the operators had been informed even though we sent through copies of the cards. So I had to organise boiled eggs to take with me and there was fruit. In Puerto Princesa our accommodation was down graded last minute to a hotel where the staff could not understand gluten free. I ended up in hospital with viral laryngitis. If you are in hospital they cannot provide gluten free food even if ordered by the doctors and your family and friends need to bring you food. It’s a beautiful place in Palawan and the people are lovely but it’s the hardest country I’ve been to for gluten free food.
It was a fantastic tour - both informative and touching. The guides were extremely knowledgeable and was able to answer all questions, while also giving us time to reflect on what was said. Kwame at Assin Manso was superb. I highly recommend this tour; it's a heartbreaking but necessary tour.
The absolute worst experience! No one came to pick my friend and I up for the tour. My friend and I called multiple times and sent various messages, however, no one responded 😐 I received an email 2 hours and 40 minutes after the pickup time to apologize for no one showing up! In addition, the email suggested that I may not receive a refund if they decided not to process a refund 😳 such bull sh*t! Do NOT book with this company, complete scam and extremely unprofessional!! 😤😡🤬
Hello, I had my bookings synchronized with my bookings calendar and unfortunately for some reason I missed out on her booking which I apologized for and sent her a screenshot of the refund because I would never keep her money. It’s so unfair that you will write such an evil review to destroy my livelihood simply because of a technical issue even though your friend has been refunded.
Nii was an amazing guide! At the beginning of our journey he set the tone of our tour with powerful message of remembrance and honoring our ancestors. The full day tour began very early and so he ensured we had a proper breakfast to start our day. The visit to the Ancestral Slave River was very moving. After the river we visited Kakum National Park. I was nervous crossing the canopy trail, but Nii was very supportive and helped encourage me across the trail! We then went to the Slave Castles, which as you can imagine was a very emotional experience. After the castles we enjoyed a pleasant lunch on the beach where Nii helped us order delicious traditional Ghanaian dishes! If you are planning to visit Ghana, I highly recommend you book with Nii as he was a wonderful guide with great energy and vast knowledge of this beautiful country!
Learning the actual history that is not always shared in America, and meeting new people. Going through the castles was a great experience.
This tour went wayyyy beyond my expectations! Parts of the trip were extremely emotional (slave river and dungeons). Others parts were super fun, such as the National park and a nice lunch on a beautiful beach. For the National park make sure you stay hydrated and wear good fitting shoes. I do not recommend sandals or flip flops Nii was the PERFECT tour guide. He was knowledgeable about every attraction we visited and made sure he explained everything in a way that was easy to understand. Nii has a great personality and I felt completely safe with him as a single female traveler from the States. He makes sure your tour is comfortable and enjoyable! I highly recommend!
This is a true Ghanaian experience!! Nii is such a phenomenal tour guide. My girlfriend and I saw the Elmina Castle, Cape Coast Castle, and the river where the last bath took place as well. Such a heavy emotional experience. I would love to do it again. Also, the food places Nii took us to were really delicious. Having authentic Ghanaian food in Ghana is beyond amazing!!
