Quito neemt zijn rol in het centrum van de wereld zeer serieus met een oude stad in het zuiden van de stad die ook bekend staat als het Centro Historico of Colonial Quito. . In een compact gebied vind je veel sierlijke kerken, sfeervolle straatjes vol mooie voorbeelden van koloniale huizen en pleinen. Wat betreft Mitad del Mundo, het echte centrum van de evenaar op ongeveer 20 km ten noorden van de hoofdstad, wie zou er niet graag een foto willen hebben terwijl hij met elk been op een ander halfrond staat?

Quito heeft het best bewaarde historische centrum van Latijns-Amerika. Deze dagtocht omvat het bezoek aan het oude deel van Quito, zoals pleinen, kerken, oude straten enz. De eerste stop is bij de Basiliek van de kerk vanwaar je een prachtig uitzicht hebt op het koloniale centrum van Quito. Na een wandeling door de koloniale straten, stop je bij het Independence Plaza om de kathedraal en het regeringspaleis te bewonderen. De kathedraal, de Compañia-kerk die zeer goed bekend staat als de gouden kerk, de kerk van Sagrario en San Francisco. Ga ten slotte naar de beroemdste heuvel in Quito, het uitkijkpunt Panecillo, waar je het contrast tussen de koloniale en moderne stad zult opmerken.
In de middag gaan we verder naar het midden van de wereld waar we de mogelijkheid hebben om het Intiñan museum te bezoeken op slechts 200 meter ten noorden van het Mitad del Mundo monument, hier is het eigenlijke "Midden van de Wereld" gemarkeerd. Dit museum laat zien wat de hedendaagse GPS heeft bewezen de ware plaats van de evenaar te zijn. Middag eindelijk terug naar het hotel.

A very educational day. Our guide shared a lot of history about the French Geodesic Mission and why this spot is so important to Ecuador. We also had a great lunch at a local spot nearby,the traditional food was delicious.
Daysi picked me up from the airport, took me to an amazing breakfast place, to Intinan museum which is the Real ecuator not Mitad, enroute picked up a fruit which I had mentioned we also had in India and was my favourite fruit while I had dozed off, took me to Puhlulahua crater where she actually used to be an intern, then to the teleferico where she bought me a coca tea while I was in the loo because she saw me struggle with the altitude, took me to multiple shops to get the esim I needed, then took me around the old city, drove me around than walk because I was tired, when we got delayed due to traffic jams and parking issue, and told me that since it's late in the evening, if there was any trouble, that she would fight while I should run for it. Nothing happened of course. But she went above and beyond, she was a friend not just a tour guide. It's rare to see someone doing the job they exactly were born and trained for.

Highly recommend this tour - great communication, friendly and knowledgeable tour guide, and all around amazing experience and perfect for a single day in Quito. Booked this tour at the very last minute (7am!) for the same day, and had a response by 7:45am. My tour guide Raul met me at my hotel front door right at 9am. Raul was fantastic, extremely knowledgeable, and had so much information about the history of Quito and Ecuador. He was flexible with timing, and happy to point out a few free extra things we happened to walk by and see were open. The tour was not rushed at all, and Raul was a perfect host! We met up with Elias our driver to get to Mitad del Mundo, and he was friendly and a considerate driver. Raul wasn’t able to accompany me to that part of the tour, but he gave great recommendations and instructions on what to do and see there, and it was very easy to follow. Elias waited while I toured the monument and then brought me safely back to my hotel. It was a great day, and I truly felt taken care of on this tour. Once again, highly recommend to anyone looking for an authentic guided tour with great local recommendations.
