De Kasbah van de Udaya’s ligt boven de Atlantische Oceaan en de rivier de Bou Regreg en is een van de meest pittoreske bezienswaardigheden van Rabat. Dit historische fort dateert uit de 12e eeuw en is beroemd om zijn rustige sfeer, smalle blauw-witte straatjes en adembenemende panoramische uitzichten. Wandelen door de Kasbah voelt alsof je een charmant kustplaatsje binnenstapt, waar geschiedenis, architectuur en het dagelijks leven prachtig samensmelten.
De Andalusische tuinen liggen in de Kasbah en bieden een rustige ontsnapping aan de drukte van de stad. Deze weelderige tuinen zijn ontworpen in traditionele Moorse stijl en voorzien van sinaasappelbomen, kleurrijke bloemen, fonteinen en schaduwrijke wandelpaden. Marina Rabat is een moderne promenade aan het water die zich uitstrekt langs de rivier de Bou Regreg tussen Rabat en Salé. De Hassan-toren is Rabats meest iconische monument en een krachtig symbool van het Marokkaanse keizerlijke verleden. Gebouwd in de 12e eeuw, was het de bedoeling om de hoogste minaret ter wereld te worden, maar de bouw werd nooit voltooid. Tegenwoordig staat de toren omringd door honderden stenen zuilen, waardoor een indrukwekkende openluchtsite is ontstaan die de grandeur van de Almohadendynastie weerspiegelt.
Het Mausoleum van Mohammed V kijkt uit op de Hassantoren en is een architectonisch meesterwerk dat het beste Marokkaanse vakmanschap toont. Versierd met ingewikkelde mozaïeken, bewerkt marmer en een prachtig gebeeldhouwd plafond van cederhout, herbergt het de graven van koning Mohammed V en zijn zonen. Koninklijke bewakers in traditionele kleding dragen bij aan de plechtige en majestueuze sfeer van deze heilige plek.
Chellah is een oude archeologische site die Romeinse ruïnes en middeleeuwse islamitische structuren combineert, gelegen in rustige tuinen. Omringd door versterkte muren is deze sfeervolle locatie de thuisbasis van ooievaars, bloemen en verborgen paden. Het biedt bezoekers een fascinerende reis door verschillende beschavingen terwijl ze genieten van een rustige omgeving weg van het stadslawaai.
Het Koninklijk Paleis is de officiële residentie van de koning van Marokko en een symbool van de monarchie van het land. Hoewel de toegang beperkt is, kunnen bezoekers de grote poorten, indrukwekkende architectuur en koninklijke wachters bewonderen. Het paleis weerspiegelt de elegantie, Autoriteit en traditie van het Marokkaanse koninklijke erfgoed.
De oude medina is het bruisende hart van het traditionele Rabat. De smalle straatjes zijn gevuld met lokale markten, ambachtelijke werkplaatsen, cafés en historische gebouwen. I had the pleasure of being welcomed and driven in a tuk-tuk by Mr. Hossam, and I can only warmly recommend him. He is a very good driver who knows his vehicle perfectly, which makes the ride particularly smooth and reassuring. Brilliant Tuk-Tuk ride around Rabat. What a great way to see this surprising city! We had plenty of time to see everything - the Chellah was particularly impressive - and take photos. We did the tour at 4pm and I think it was a perfect time of day (back by 7 for dinner) as the sunlight was so pretty.
