Beschrijving
Op Piazza Duomo staat de imposante kathedraal van Siena en hier begint u het bezoek. Na een inleiding over de buitengewone gevel versierd met beelden van filosofen, profeten en broers en zussen die met elkaar lijken te praten, vertelt je gids je het verhaal van de reden waarom de kathedraal helaas onafgewerkt is gebleven. Het bezoek gaat verder binnen, waar je de gelegenheid om de ingelegde marmeren mozaïekvloer te bewonderen, de prachtige beelden van Michelangelo, de kapel van St. Johannes de Doper die een werk herbergt gerealiseerd door Donatello, de Chigi-kapel van Bernini, fresco's en schilderijen. Het bezoek in de prachtige Piccolomini-bibliotheek is een unieke ervaring. De fresco's gerealiseerd door Pinturicchio en Raffaello tonen scènes uit het leven van Enea Silvio Piccolomini die paus Pius II werd. Tijdens de periode waarin de vloer is blootgelegd, toont de gids je ook enkele panelen onder de koepel, ontworpen door de Sienese kunstenaar Domenico Beccafumi.

Je ontmoet de gids voor de gevel van de kathedraal, bij het centrale bronzen portaal. De gids zal je deze prachtige kerk van buiten laten zien en dan zul je haar schoonheden van binnen ontdekken.

- In het geval van grote groepen zijn radio's verplicht om de kathedraal binnen te gaan; we kunnen ze boeken en voorzien van een kleine toeslag

Elena was an excellent guide, with profound knowledge of the art historical backgrounds as well as the historical epochs. Elena did not lecture; it was more of a conversation with someone knowledgeable. I would have loved to repeat the tour with Elena in Rome or Florence; it was simply nice.
Fantastic tour. Barbara Latini was extremely knowledgable and engaging and made the tour an absolute delight. Because she could see how our small group of 5 was so interested, she continued well beyond the allotted time. Very highly recommended

The specialized guide Elena accompanied us on a two-hour visit of the cathedral of Siena. The visit was incredibly engaging thanks to Elena's professionalism that combines an immense knowledge of the subject with a great ability to transmit and also a nice and friendly attitude. Our guide Ludovica was very kind in respecting our times, she very prepared put passion into explaining things without ever getting bored I found excellent her way of exposing the explanations and I must say that I managed to memorize a lot (which is not always obvious) I would say great experience to recommend certainly!!

Beautiful city but that could not be visited except with a guide that we called wonderful. Thank you Ludovica for making us appreciate the wonders of this city. Our tour guide, Sabrina, was fabulous. She was extremely knowledgeable about the Duomo and Siena. In addition to what was on the itinerary given we had bought the expansive entrance ticket she also took us into the Crypt. After we were done with the Duomo she showed us the church where they bless the horse for Palio in her Owl neighborhood, where community food gets served and the race museum. She also took us into a local bakery and helped us buy desserts. She truly cared and loves what she does and was so enthusiastic to show off her city!!!
