Jerash is een oude Romeinse stad die een van de best bewaarde archeologische vindplaatsen in het Midden-Oosten is. Het ligt ongeveer 48 kilometer ten noorden van Amman. De stad werd gesticht in de 2e eeuw voor Christus en bloeide op onder Romeins bewind. Het was een belangrijk centrum van handel en commercie, en de goed bewaarde ruïnes omvatten tempels, theaters, baden en straten met colonnades.

Een enorme arena, 245 meter lang, waar maximaal 15.000 toeschouwers samen zouden komen om wagenrennen en andere atletiekevenementen te bekijken. Je ziet nog steeds de zitstandaards en draaipalen.
Een van de meest iconische en gefotografeerde locaties in Jerash. Dit ongewone, ruime ovale plein is omgeven door een colonnade van Ionische zuilen, wat een opvallend visueel middelpunt voor de stad vormt.
De belangrijkste gezuilde straat strekt zich uit over 800 meter. Nog steeds geplaveid met zijn originele stenen, de sporen gedragen door oude strijdwagens zijn nog steeds zichtbaar. Wandelen langs deze straat geeft je een echt gevoel van de schaal en het stedenbouwkundige ontwerp van de stad.

Had a great time in Amman and Jerash. Our driver/guide Mr Mint was very friendly and accommodating to our needs. He showed us some local deserts and tea, which was really nice. The only issue was that the tour was only 6 hours when we were driven to our hotel, not 7 hours as advertised.

For our first trip to Jordan—a short two-day stopover in Amman—we hoped to see as much of its famed antiquities and ruins as possible. After searching the endless tour possibilities to be found on TripAdvisor, the best tour itinerary was this one offered by R&H VIP Transportation. Their quick confirmation of our reservation followed by direct contact by our driver—Mohammad Bardaghawi—was immediately reassuring that we made the right choice, and Mohammad proved to be very flexible in working with our timetable, professional in all respects, and generous with his time, guidance and suggestions, and in introducing us to local treats such as “Turkish” coffee and knafeh. He picked us up on time at our hotel, made us comfortable throughout our day-long trip to Jerash and then back to explore Amman not only with his skillful driving but with his vast knowledge about the history of Jordan as well as the specific sites we saw, and then brought us back to our hotel.
