In de jaren 1800, nadat de Goethe zijn schoonheid in heel Europa had geprezen en het in zijn boek Italian Journey had genoemd, werd Taormina een verplichte stop op de Grand Tour - de lange reis in continentaal Europa - door de jonge Europese aristocratie van die tijd om hun te verrijken eigen cultuur. Tegenwoordig is het een toeristische hoofdstad van Sicilië en veel reizigers verlevendigen de straten het hele jaar door.
De oude Grieken bouwden hun gebouwen graag op prachtige schilderachtige locaties. Hier vonden ze de combinatie van de Etna en de baai van Naxos, met een prachtig uitzicht dat de lucht bij helder weer de kust van Calabrië kan bereiken. Het is zeker het belangrijkste monument van de stad, niet alleen vanwege de intrinsieke artistieke waarde, maar ook vanwege de schilderachtige locatie waarin het is geplaatst. Het uitzicht vanaf daar wordt zelfs gedefinieerd als het uitzicht bij uitstek. Degene die je niet mag missen als je op Sicilië bent.
Savoca (Messina), een van de mooiste dorpen van Italië, wiens naam is afgeleid van de plant van de oudere (savucu in het Siciliaanse dialect), een struik die nog steeds in het wild groeit in de scheuren tussen huizen en die wordt weergegeven in de middeleeuwse jas van het dorp. Dit kleine stadje, gelegen in de rots van een heuvel met dubbele punt, ervoer de interesse van koningen, pausen en archimandriet-prelaten, in een opeenvolging van periodes van ernstige crisis en voorspoed. De basaltblokken liggen op wegen die leiden tussen afzonderlijke kleine huizen, vers gerestaureerd met Siciliaanse tegels op de daken en ramen omlijst door stenen, en vervolgens straten volgen in de rots hier vind je extreem gefragmenteerde ruïnes en oude reservoirs.

Our experience with Rome In Limo was outstanding! This was the second time in the past several years that we used RIL and once again they far exceeded our high expectations. Six of us thoroughly enjoyed our three excursions: 1) The Godfather Country, 2) Private Day Trip to Florence and Pisa and Daytrip from Rome to Pompei and Sorrento and Private. RIL always met us on time in each port, asked our specific interests for each tour and accommodated every special request. As an example, on the Florence/Pisa tour, we requested if it would be possible to tour a Tuscany winery. While not part of that tour, the driver made it happen; turned out to be one of the best tours (and wine tastings) ever! All drivers and tour guides were exceptional; friendly, extremely knowledgeable, flexible and just fun to be around! We have recommended RIL to many family and friends and all had equally great experiences. Highly recommend them.

We have used Rome in Limo before and have loved every minute of our tours. Luca was our driver at this location snd was amazing. He was so knowledgeable about the area and answered all of our questions. He was so proud of his home and excited to share all he could with us. We asked him to recommend a local restaurant. He took us to the most wonderful restaurant with the most authentic food. I had something that I had never tried and it was delicious. The owner was gracious and treated us like family. It was such a great tour and we were sad when it was over. Highly recommend Rome in Limo. This was our fourth tour and tour guide and it could not have been better. Thank you for making our vacation excursion the best.

The Godfather Tour wasn't just about seeing where some of the movies were filmed (though we certainly did that!), it was about learning the history of the locations, the people, the food, the culture, and so, so much more. Luca, our tour guide, was amazing! His knowledge of the area, the ancient history of the churches and villages was fantastic! We shared with him the things we wanted to learn about the area, and he more than delivered. We highly recommend RomeInLimo. Their level of service is refreshingly wonderful!

Seamless experience! Tour guide met us as we left the cruise ship. Whisked us off ahead of the big tour buses (ie the crowds). Had a great day planned for us. My husband and son are huge Godfather fans, so seeing the sites and hearing the history was a great treat. Bigger treat was where we were taken for lunch -small local restaurant which was AMAZING!!! Great seafood!!! Highly recommend
