Ontdek de elegantie en rijke geschiedenis van Potsdam tijdens een privétour vanuit Berlijn en verken de voormalige koninklijke residentie van de Pruisische koningen en Duitse keizers. Potsdam staat net buiten de hoofdstad bekend om zijn prachtige paleizen, aangelegde tuinen en fascinerende verhalen over koningshuizen, oorlog en diplomatie. Bezoek Paleis Cecilienhof, waar de leiders van de geallieerde machten elkaar ontmoetten tijdens de Conferentie van Potsdam in 1945 om de naoorlogse wereld vorm te geven. In de buurt stopt u bij de beroemde Glienicke-brug, bekend als de 'Brug der Spionnen', waar ooit spionnenuitwisselingen tussen Oost en West plaatsvonden. Nadat u over de Glienicke 'spy swap'-brug bent gelopen, bezoekt u Cecilienhof, het herenhuis van de laatste kroonprins van Duitsland, die in 1945 de conferentie van Potsdam organiseerde. De Vredeskerk (Friedenskirche) in Potsdam is een serene 19e-eeuwse kerk in het Sanssoucipark. In opdracht van koning Frederik Willem IV van Pruisen werd het geïnspireerd door vroegchristelijke en Italiaanse basilieken, waardoor het een eenvoudige maar elegante uitstraling kreeg. Omgeven door rustige tuinen en kloosters weerspiegelt de kerk de visie van de koning op harmonie, spiritualiteit en rustige reflectie binnen het koninklijk park.
Het Nieuwe Paleis (Neues Palais) in Potsdam is het grootste en weelderigste paleis in het Sanssouci Park. Gebouwd door Frederik de Grote na de Zevenjarige Oorlog, was het bedoeld als een groots statement van Pruisische kracht en rijkdom. Met zijn weelderige barokke architectuur, sierlijke interieurs en meer dan 200 kamers diende het paleis als een plek voor koninklijke ceremonies, staatsbezoeken en weelderige vieringen.
De Paradiesgarten (Paradijstuin) in Potsdam is een prachtig aangelegd gedeelte van het Sanssouci Park, ontworpen als een rustig toevluchtsoord binnen de koninklijke tuinen. Met elegante paden, sierbeplanting en zorgvuldig geplande uitzichten weerspiegelt het de verfijnde tuinesthetiek waar het Pruisische hof de voorkeur aan geeft en vormt het een aanvulling op de omliggende paleizen en historische architectuur.

We got a super cool personalized tour, and our guide Glen was fantastic! We also got to learn how to navigate the German transit system. Glen learned what we were interested in, as our entire Europe trip had been WWII-focused, and really gave us details and insight around Potsdam, and the events and people that led up to both World Wars. Potsdam had a significant part to play, which I definitely did not know. There is also some beautiful and unique architecture around Potsdam, which I loved taking pictures of. Mikhail was AMAZING! It was unexpectedly cold and we got rained on as well, but he still made it an extremely fun experience. I went with a group of my girlfriends all of us are college age, and there were some older couples there too, and everyone was able to enjoy themselves equally. Nikolai was a fantastic guide. We didn’t know what to expect nor the history of Potsdam and he taught us so much! We navigated through bus and train system with his assistance and found a cute cafe for a snack mid day. He was patient with our need to go slow and still managed to hit most (I think?) of his planned itinerary. It was more walking than we expected but nothing too much. Would love to go back to the palace / bummed we didn’t have time to see more!
