Ntarama en Nyamata zijn voormalige katholieke kerken. Veel Tutsi's kwamen hier samen omdat een kerk als een veilige plaats werd beschouwd. Tijdens deze educatieve tour leer je de oorzaken, realiteit en gevolgen van de genocide tegen Tutsi in Rwanda.

Ntarama Genocide Memorial Centre is een van de zes genocidemusea in Rwanda. 5000 mensen werden hier vermoord in een katholieke kerk. je zult de oude kerk kunnen zien waar slachtoffers vroeger baden en weten hoe ze in de kerk zijn vermoord. je zult de wapens kunnen zien die ze hebben gebruikt om te doden en oude kleren van de slachtoffers. de gids zal het hele verhaal doornemen over hoe de genocide in Rwanda begon, de belangrijkste oorzaak en hoe deze eindigde.
Het Nyamata Genocide Memorial is gevestigd rond een voormalige kerk 30 km ten zuiden van Kigali in Rwanda, die de Rwandese genocide in 1994 herdenkt. Hier liggen de stoffelijke resten van 50.000 mensen begraven. je zult in staat zijn om de geschiedenis van het gebied en de oude kerk te zien en te leren waar slachtoffers vroeger baden en knowhow en wanneer ze werden aangevallen terwijl ze zich verstopten in de kerk.

Although the guide at one of the Genocide Memorials seemed surprised (and a bit frustrated) at conducting the guided tour upon my arrival, Samy, my personal tour guide for the day, provided a wonderful experience: communicating clearly via WhatsApp hours before the event; getting me to the sites on time; and making me feel comfortable in taking my time once at the memorials. The tour is heavy in scope, but Samy is pleasant and professional, adding a layer of warmth by providing information about Rwanda's current politics and affairs, adding a forward, progressive trajectory to the country's tragic past. Much recommended!

My mom and I did this tour with Aime. Driving was great. We learned a lot from him. These tours were heavy, but worthwhile. It gives a deeper perspective into Rwanda’s history. My only criticism — there was a bit of confusion at one of the locations. It was unclear whether the company didn’t give good notice or the memorial didn’t staff properly. It worked out in the end, but it would have been disappointing to go all that way and pay such a substantial sum to get turned away. I didn’t push the issue at the time because it was unclear who dropped the ball on this.

I would definitely recommend Wild Hikes Rwanda. They are always on time and the tour guides are very knowledgeable about different events in the city.
