Kapali Carsi is een van de grootste en oudste overdekte markten ter wereld, met meer dan 58 overdekte straten en meer dan 1.200 winkels. Het werd geopend in 1461 en staat bekend om zijn winkels met sieraden, aardewerk, kruiden en tapijten. Veel van de kraampjes in de bazaar zijn gegroepeerd op het soort goederen, met speciale ruimtes voor leren jassen, gouden sieraden en dergelijke. De bazaar bevat twee bedestens (koepelvormige metselwerkconstructies gebouwd voor opslag en bewaring), waarvan de eerste tussen 1455 en 1461 werd gebouwd in opdracht van Sultan Mehmed de Veroveraar. De grote bazaar bestaat uit 12 grote gebouwen en heeft 22 deuren.
Blauwe Moskee (Sultanahmet-moskee - Camii) gebouwd tijdens het bewind van Sultan Ahmet I in 1609-1616. Het is de enige moskee in Turkije met zes minaretten. Vanwege de prachtige met de hand geverfde blauwe, groene en witte Iznik-tegels is het door Europeanen de "Blauwe Moskee" genoemd. De centrale koepel is 43 m hoog en heeft een diameter van 33,4 m; het beschikt ook over 260 ramen.
