De Grote Moskee werd gebouwd op een terrein van 416.000 m2 en het complex strekt zich uit tot een oppervlakte van 40.000 m2. De Grote Moskee werd ingehuldigd door Sultan van Oman op 4 mei 2001, vijf minaretten zijn gebouwd rond het terrein van de moskee de belangrijkste minaret (90 meter) in hoogte. De gebedszaal is vierkant van vorm en 74,4 bij 74,4 meter (244 bij 244 voet) heeft een centrale koepel die oploopt tot een hoogte van 50 meter (160 ft.) boven de vloer, de koepel is spectaculair verfraaid van binnenuit en het is een belangrijke toeristische attractie op zich, de belangrijkste Musalla (gebedsruimte) kan meer dan 6500 aanbidders bevatten, het belangrijkste ontwerp van het interieur is het gebedstapijt dat de vloer van de gebedszaal bedekt, het bevat, 1.70.000.000 knopen, weegt 21 ton en duurde vier jaar om te produceren, en brengt de klassieke Perzische Tabriz, Kashan en Isfahan ontwerptradities samen 28 kleuren in verschillende tinten werden gebruikt.
Van Grand Mosque op weg naar de vismarkt rijden we door de ministeries en ambassades gebied ook rijden we door de prachtige strandstraat, bezoek de vis- en groentemarkt, lokale volkeren betalen en verkopen verse vis en zeevruchten.
Van de vismarkt, op slechts een klein eindje rijden naar Mutrah Souq (Markt) bezoek Mutrah Souq, Oman's grootste traditionele Souq, Mutrah Souq is een van de oudste markten in Oman dat dateert uit tweehonderd jaar, het ligt naast de haven van Muscat en heeft een immense handel in het tijdperk van zeilen gezien, strategisch gelegen op weg naar India en China, het werd vernoemd naar de duisternis vanwege de drukke kraampjes en rijstroken waar de zonnestralen overdag niet infiltreren en het winkelend publiek lampen nodig heeft om hun bestemmingen te kennen, de naam van de markt is specifiek getrokken uit het deel dat zich uitstrekt van Al Lawatiya Moskee tot Khour Bimba waar de plaats echt vol is met winkels en kraampjes en het smalle gebied van steegjes laat het zonlicht niet binnen, deze oude markt beschikt vandaag over kronkelende kraampjes met antiek, traditionele stoffen, aromatische kruiden wierook, parfum, zilver, Omani zoet (Halwa), en verse producten.
Vanuit Mutrah souq bezoeken we Bait Al Zubair Museum, voor een mooie weergave van de Omaanse cultuur en geschiedenis en informatie over de koninklijke familie.
Ga verder met uw reis naar het oude Muscat en bekijk het Al Alam Palace, heeft een geschiedenis van meer dan 200 jaar, en werd gebouwd onder de hoede van Imam Sultan bin Ahmed, de 7e directe overgrootvader van Sultan Haitham, het bestaande paleis, dat een gevel van goud en blauw heeft, werd herbouwd als koninklijke residentie in 1972, het binnenterrein van het paleis blijft verboden terrein, maar leden van het publiek mogen stoppen bij de poorten en foto's nemen, het paleis wordt gebruikt voor officiële functies en ontvangt vooraanstaande bezoekers, wanneer u de belangrijkste poorten van Al Alam Palace bezoekt, het is in tegenstelling tot elke andere hoofdstad die u ooit zult bezoeken, het paleis zelf is elegant maar bescheiden van ontwerp, in tegenstelling tot de grandioze structuren van andere hoofdsteden, elegant ontworpen, het beschikt over veel hooggepolijste marmeren oppervlakken, overheidsgebouwen in de omgeving zijn wit, met gekanteelde daken en houten balkons in de traditionele Omaanse stijl, hoewel voornamelijk een ceremonieel paleis.
Jalali en Mirani Forten, zijn forten in de haven van het oude Muscat, de forten werden gebouwd door de Portugezen onder Filips I van Portugal in 1580 op een eerdere Omaanse fort om de haven te beschermen nadat Muscat tweemaal was geplunderd door Ottomaanse troepen, het viel aan Omaanse troepen in 1650, tijdens de burgeroorlogen tussen 1718 en 1747, de forten werden tweemaal veroverd door Perzen die waren uitgenodigd om een van de rivaliserende Imams te helpen, het fort werd later uitgebreid herbouwd.
Van daaruit bezoeken we het Royal Opera House, hij is majesteit Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said Sultan van Oman is altijd een fan geweest van klassieke muziek en kunst, in 2001 gaf de sultan opdracht tot de bouw van een operagebouw, en het werd officieel geopend op 12 oktober 2011, het Royal Opera House weerspiegelt unieke hedendaagse Omaanse architectuur, en heeft een capaciteit voor maximaal 1.100 personen, het Royal Opera House complex bestaat uit een concerttheater, auditorium, formele aangelegde tuinen, culturele markt met detailhandel, luxe restaurants en een kunstcentrum voor muzikale, theatrale en operaproducties.

Ali is a fantastic guide who speaks excellent English and knows how to explain everything about Muscat, Omani history and culture. It was a very valuable experience. I think I've seen more in half a day than most people have seen in two days. This tour is highly recommended.

We had a half-day private visit with Haroun who proved to be a good guide and a kind person. With us there were our children of 4 and not even a year and the latter was not very cooperative for the duration of the tour but Haroun was never impatient and indeed was really cooperative even helping us in the management. All the stops were beautiful and interesting, I recommend the trip absolutely!

Jaafar was an excellent and knowledgeable guide! We went to the Grand Mosque and observed the wonderful architecture of the buildings.
