In een labyrint van straatjes, steegjes en kleine pleintjes krijg je de kans om meer te leren over de kunst en geschiedenis van Monopoli en in contact te komen met de tradities van deze fascinerende Apulische stad, met uitzicht op de Adriatische Zee. Het is de ideale tour voor diegenen die de levendigheid willen ervaren van een stad aan zee, verrijkt met een interessant historisch-artistiek erfgoed, in het gezelschap van een lokale gids, geboren en getogen in Monopoli. Aan het einde van het bezoek wacht u een aangename verrassing: het proeven van een stukje focaccia uit Bari of een panzerotto.

De tour begint in Largo Plebiscito, bij de poorten van het oude stadscentrum. We lopen langs de Via Garibaldi tot we bij Piazza Garibaldi komen, een plek die bol staat van de geschiedenis. Stop bij het kasteel van Karel V, gelegen op een van de oudste delen van de oude stad. Als je langs de promenade loopt, kun je de imposante Bastions en het panoramische uitzicht op de Oude Poort met zijn 16e-eeuwse vestingmuren bewonderen. We bezoeken de Basiliek van Maria SS. della Madia met haar weelderige interieur, waarmee de legende van het Icoon van de Madonna della Madia verbonden is. We passeren enkele karakteristieke steegjes en komen uit op Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, het kloppende hart van de nieuwe stad. De toegevoegde waarde van deze tour is de Monopoly-gids! Aan het einde van de rondleiding wordt een stuk Bari focaccia of een gebakken of gefrituurde panzerotto aangeboden om te proeven. (let op, proeverij is niet inbegrepen voor niet-betalers) De tour is privé, maar eventuele wijzigingen moeten vooraf met de gids worden afgesproken.

Valerie was perfectly able to explain the city, its history and all the important areas with examples of each historical aspect in an entertaining and relaxed way. We had so many questions and she was able to explain each issue clearly. The time spent learning with Valerie flew quickly. This was our first visit to Monopoli, Italy and Valerie was a wonderful hostess for our visit!

I had a wonderful experience on my Monopoli solo tour with Valeria. She has an extensive understanding of the history of Monopoli and Puglia. She is able to relate this to the architecture and economy through the years. I walked away with a deeper appreciation of the area and a few noteworthy stories to tell about the city. This was one of if not the best tours I have ever taken and the best value ever! Valerie was an excellent guide and had a wealth of knowledge not only about the old city but of Italian history. Her English was terrific and easy to understand and she easily understood what we were saying. My maternal grandparents came to the United States from Monopoli in 1905 and I was very excited to take this tour. It was worth every penny. I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in the history of the area.

This was the second private tour we did with Valeria - even more special because Monopoli is her hometown and she shared her memories of growing up there. We were so impressed with her knowledge of the city and region that we arranged to have a third tour with her in Alberobello. She's personable, knowledgeable, and charming! We had a wonderful walking tour of the historic center of Monopoli with Valeria. She was welcoming, friendly, engaging, and very knowledgeable about the history of the town from ancient times to the present day. She was able to point out details and share anecdotes that we never would have uncovered on our own. We have another day to explore the town and it will be more interesting for us now that we can view things with the historical and cultural framework that Valeria provided. She topped off our very enjoyable time together with a visit to her favorite bakery....one that we will certainly revisit. We highly recommend Valeria's tour walking through the old town of Monopoli.

We had an amazing private guided walking tour with Valeria in Monopoli. She grew up here, so her knowledge of the city and all the changes over time really brought the history to life. She shared so many fun and interesting facts that we never would have noticed on our own. The tour ended with a delicious surprise treat of fresh focaccia bread, which was the perfect way to finish. Valeria even pointed out details about the beautifully renovated church right in front of where we were staying, with our VRBO tucked into it and overlooking the sea. A wonderful experience that made Monopoli even more special!
