Ontsnap aan het drukke stadscentrum en ontdek Funchal van bovenaf tijdens een privé tuk-tuk tour door rustige heuvelstraatjes, lokale wegen en schilderachtige uitzichtpunten. Geniet van een panoramisch uitzicht over Funchal Bay, de haven, de bergen en de Atlantische Oceaan, vanaf plekken die veel bezoekers nooit bereiken. Onderweg zal ik verhalen over Madeira delen, bezienswaardigheden aanwijzen en restaurants, uitzichtpunten en ervaringen aanbevelen voor de rest van je verblijf. Er is tijd om te stoppen voor foto’s, en ik pas de route graag aan het weer, het verkeer en je interesses aan. Reizen per tuk-tuk maakt het gemakkelijk om uitzichtpunten en smalle wegen te bereiken waar grotere voertuigen gewoon niet bij kunnen, een ontspannen, persoonlijke manier om Funchal vanuit een ander perspectief te zien. Sommige van mijn favoriete haltes op deze route hebben niet eens officiële namen, alleen plekken die ik in de loop der jaren heb gevonden met een geweldig uitzicht en geen drukte. Als je liever de lokale bevolking van Funchal op de hoogte wilt zien dan een checklist af te vinken, is dit de tour voor jou.

De Mercado dos Lavradores is het hart van de handel in verse producten van Funchal sinds de opening in 1940, de ingang versierd met traditionele azulejo tegelpanelen. Binnen staan kraampjes vol tropisch fruit, bloemen en de vangst van de dag verspreid over verschillende verdiepingen, vaak bewaakt door bloemenverkopers in traditionele Madeiraanse kleding. Het is een geweldige stop voor foto's en een voorproefje van het lokale leven.
De oude binnenstad van Funchal is vooral bekend om straten als de Rua de Santa Maria, met zijn collectie fel geschilderde deuren, smalle geplaveide straatjes en traditionele lokale restaurants. Deze historische hoekjes zijn een van de meest karaktervolle en fotogenieke kanten van de stad.
Pináculo is één van Funchal’s meest gefotografeerde uitkijkpunten en biedt een zeldzaam perspectief dat terugkijkt over de stad vanaf de kliffen van São Gonçalo. Geniet van een prachtig uitzicht over de baai, de haven en de Atlantische Oceaan, met voldoende tijd voor foto's.
Praça do Município wordt vaak beschouwd als het mooiste plein van Funchal, geplaveid met zwart-witte Portugese kasseien en omlijst door drie historische gebouwen: het stadhuis, het voormalige bisschoppelijk paleis, nu een museum, en de Igreja do Colégio. Deze 17e-eeuwse jezuïetenkerk, een van de rijkste van Madeira, verbergt een buitengewoon barok interieur achter zijn effen witte gevel, met verguld houtsnijwerk en tegelpanelen die bijna elk oppervlak bedekken. Het is een rustige plek om te pauzeren, foto’s te maken en naar binnen te stappen als de kerk open is.

Gelieve 5 minuten voor de geplande ophaaltijd klaar te staan. Stuur na het boeken uw exacte ophaallocatie door, en uw chauffeur - Gids zal het beste ontmoetingspunt bevestigen. Als uw accommodatie zich in een smalle of beperkte straat bevindt, kan een ophaalpunt in de buurt worden geregeld. Drop-off kan ook worden geregeld binnen Funchal, waar veilig toegankelijk.

Incredible tour! Virgílio was extremely knowledgeable, kind and professional. Doing this tour in the beginning of your trip is a MUST to see the area and learn which places you have to see while in Madeira. We went to one of the restaurants he suggested for dinner that night and it was our favorite place we ate at all vacation!

Our tuc tuc tour with Virgilio was a really great experience. He was spot on time, very polite, helpful & informative. He showed us some lovely spots in Funchal which we would not have found otherwise. He recommended a bakery selling Pastel de Nata & he was right, they were divine.
