Deze zeer opmerkelijke waterval is een van de hoogste in het gebied en spuwt kristalhelder gletsjerwater 80 meter in zijn bassin. Het mooie en aantrekkelijke pad dat naar de Materuni-waterval leidt, ligt op 2400 meter boven de zeespiegel. Het doorkruist valleien en heuvels bedekt met tropisch regenwoud, langs koffie, banaan en avocado "shambas", het Kiswahili-woord voor boerderijen. Op een heldere dag is er een geweldig uitzicht op de stad Kibo en Moshi. De wandeling naar de voet van de waterval kan op een gegeven moment veeleisend zijn en wandelschoenen worden aanbevolen, vooral tijdens natte seizoenen. Omdat deze reis zo dicht bij de stad Moshi ligt, is het ideaal voor mensen met beperkte tijd, maar die toch graag wat van de natuur en schoonheid willen zien die deze regio van Tanzania te bieden heeft.

Together with my daughter we did trips and tour to the waterfall with Alpha van Oserok, with lunch at a Chagga tribe and with a coffee ceremony. Alpha picked us up at our hotel and together we walked to the waterfall. Along the way he explained a lot about all the plants, trees and animals that could be seen there. He is a relaxed and extremely experienced guide and we had a great day.

The tour to Materuni with Alfa as our guide was a wonderful experience. We were able to plan everything in advance with him and he was especially flexible with our wishes. We would especially like to highlight that he knows all the important places very well and knew how to explain everything. We also visited a coffee farm where we learned the coffee process, with a fun atmosphere. All in all, a wonderful tour with an extremely pleasant and knowledgeable guide. This tour offered a wonderful chance to see and explore the forests at the base of Kilimanjaro, while also providing an opportunity to learn about the rich cultures of the area. Alpha was so kind and friendly and went above and beyond to make our tour a memorable one. As we were on our honeymoon he even surprised us with a toast that he’s organised for us at the village. It was truly a memorable experience and the trip itself was incredible ! We tasted the delicious coffee made from the villagers own plantations and seeing the process was captivating for coffee lovers like me! We hiked all the way to the waterfalls on the Kilimanjaro slopes and had incredible views of nature. Alpha even took some lovely pictures of us and took great care of
