Na ongeveer anderhalf uur rijden (tijden zijn afhankelijk van de locatie van uw hotel). Tijdens deze eerste fase zal ik met u praten over de opeenvolging van gebeurtenissen die ertoe leidden dat Frankrijk in 1940 door de nazi’s werd bezet. Vervolgens zullen we praten over de planning en voorbereidingsoperaties voor de landing van 6 juni 1944 en tenslotte de heldendaden bespreken. van de 225 man van het tweede rangerbataljon van kolonel Rudder.
We stoppen in het hart van Omaha Beach in Saint-Laurent sur mer, waar je wat foto's kunt maken en ik zal een aantal restaurants aanbevelen, zodat je een snelle lunch kunt nuttigen voordat je naar onze volgende stop gaat.
De Amerikaanse begraafplaats van Colleville sur Mer is de meest bezochte plek op de invasiestranden. We zullen stoppen om, als u dat wenst, een korte film te zien die hulde brengt aan enkele soldaten die zijn omgekomen in de strijd tijdens de Slag om Normandië. Ook zal het op deze locatie mogelijk zijn een klein herdenkingsmuseum te bezoeken. We zullen dan met respect wandelen tussen de 9387 graven van de helden die stierven om Europa te bevrijden.
In Longues-sur-Mer kunnen we stoppen om de casmaten te zien die nog steeds de 155 mm kanonnen huisvesten die deel uitmaken van de beroemde Atlantikwall die in Europa door de nazi’s vanaf 1942 werd geïnstalleerd.
We stoppen bij Arromanches les Bains om de overblijfselen te zien van de kunstmatige haven die de geallieerden in de eerste dagen van de aanval hebben geïnstalleerd. Hier zal ik u opnieuw de planning en installatie uitleggen van deze gigantische locatie die nodig is voor de bevoorrading van het geallieerde leger.
Als u dat wenst, keren we terug naar uw hotel langs de landingsstranden in de oostelijke sector van de aanval en kunnen we zo de Benouville-brug oversteken, omgedoopt tot Pegasus-brug, ter ere van een commando van de zesde Britse luchtlandingsdivisie die op heldhaftige wijze de plaats in de nacht van 5 op 6 juni 1944. Daarna rijden we terug naar uw hotel.

We had an amazing tour with Quentin. He arrived on time and we went from there! He was so knowledgeable and was able to answer all of our questions. He toured us around and gave us ample time to explore. His video helped set the tone for the whole day. It was truly a moving experience that I will forever remember.

Gilles is a very knowledgeable and professional tour guide, that we highly recommend for tours of the Le Havre and Normandy area. His knowledge of the World Wars is outstanding, and he shared information in a very easily understood way. Our party of six was unanimous in our appreciation for a tour well done. His English was excellent, his car was first class, and he was onetime and delivered the tour just as promised. We've enjoyed several excellent private tours but this tour was by far one of the best.

Gilles and his team were absolutely amazing!!!! We had 8 people total and two very comfortable, clean, well stocked cars (food and beverages), that made our trip from the cruise port to Normandy very relaxing. Along the way, Gilles told us about the history leading up to the Normandy invasion which was so very informative, even as a HS History teacher myself! The other car was able to hear all the info as well due to his communication set up…it was wonderful!!! We stopped at the Point du Hoc first and received his guided tour along the way! After that, he arranged lunch for our group that was super delicious! Next stop was Omaha Beach, then the cemetery, the Mulberry Harbors and the Atlantic Wall, finishing off with the gun emplacements!!!! It was absolutely an amazing day!!!! I can’t tell you how highly I recommend this tour!!!! All 8 people in our group agreed that this was their favorite tour on our 2 week British Isle cruise!!!

Gilles is amazing. What a great person! Our train trip to Caen had an unexpected incident on the track which caused us to have to go back to LeHavre. He drove there and picked us up. He brought croissant for the whole family. He had a smile on his face and truly enjoyed the day with us. Very accommodating, very friendly. I would not tour with anyone else after this! Trusted with my whole family including a 10 year old and he did not disappoint! Cannot say enough nice things about the tour and how informative and fun it was. I got to go inside a German Gun emplacement and stand on the actual beach where it happened and look toward the shore. Bucket list items get checked off here. Life changing! Merci Gilles!
