Leer Salvador kennen vanuit een authentiek en lokaal perspectief en in je eigen tempo; zonder kostbare tijd te verspillen, in deze MUST DO-route. We gaan altijd buiten de traditionele route om de echte stad en alle mogelijkheden die deze te bieden heeft te ontdekken. Streetfood proberen is altijd onderdeel van het plezier en we zullen genoeg mogelijkheden hebben om het te doen. Ik zal de beste fotografieplekken voorstellen en je kunt het veilig bij mij doen. Ook geef ik je waardevolle informatie over alle activiteiten die je zelf kunt doen tijdens je verblijf in de stad. Als je graag in contact komt met de lokale gemeenschap, is dit ook de tour voor jou.

We beginnen onze leer- en ontdekkingservaring bij de iconische vuurtoren van Barra, gelegen in het Santo Antônio Fort, waar we rondlopen om geweldige foto's te maken en te genieten van de bries. Dit is de ingang van de Baai van Allerheiligen.
Hier heeft de Portugees Thomé de Souza Salvador opgericht! Het meest democratische strand van de stad, warm en kalm water, waar je allerlei soorten mensen vindt. Ik raad ten zeerste aan om een ochtend door te brengen of terug te komen tijdens de zonsondergang.

Iconische plek met interessante gebouwen
De kathedraal wordt beschouwd als een van de belangrijkste kerken van Brazilië en het was de 4e tempel die in de 17e eeuw door de jezuïeten in Salvador werd gebouwd en heeft een prachtige collectie heilige kunst.
Hier zijn we op de top van de heuvel, waar de eerste hoofdstad van Brazilië werd gebouwd. Op dit plein hebben we de beroemde Lacerda-lift uit de 19e eeuw die de beneden- en de hoge stad met elkaar verbindt. Rio Branco Palace dat het hoofdkwartier was van de eerste gouverneur van Brazilië, Thomé de Souza, het stadhuis en het Casa de Camara waar het gemeentebestuur nog steeds werkt. We beginnen het historische centrum Pelourinho te voet te verkennen en bezoeken de kathedraal en São Francisco van Assis Convent & Church. We hebben tijd voor streetfood of een restaurant. Dit is de kans om in contact te komen met lokale mensen die in ons dagelijks leven duiken.
Gebouwd in het begin van de 18e eeuw, is de kerk en het klooster van São Francisco een van de zeven wonderen van Portugese oorsprong in het Woord. Prachtige tegels en jacarandahout plus veel goud en schilderijen van lokale kunstenaars maken deel uit van dit uitstekende complex.
Het beroemde plein waar tegenwoordig de Stichting ligt Casa Jorge Amado, een van mijn favoriete schrijvers en ook waar Michael Jackson samen met Olodum het nummer “They don’t really care about us” zong.

Highly recommend this private tour with Gabriela. She showed us the favorite haunts of locals and even took us to the best ice cream shop. She was very knowledgeable about the local history as we walked Pelirunho area. She was especially attentive to our needs as one of our party was unwell.

Gabriela met us near the cruise ship at about 8:15am and from there, we had a lovely 6 hour tour of the city, with a lunch stop, (our expense) in the touristy, (but a must see), area of upper old town. Gabriela’s English is excellent and her knowledge of the city is superb. Although there are countless churches in Salvador, we limited our visits to the Bonfim Basilica. Had we seen more, the tour would have extended another hour. Book this tour without concern. It’s massively better value than any cruise ship excursion.

We loved touring Sqlvador with Gabriella. We booked an all day tour that started at 10 am from our hotel. She took us around the city’s most significant neighborhood by car and on foot. She knows the local history real well and she clearly loves telling others about it. Gabriella who is originally from Argentina also speaks very good English which we found was rare in the north east. We highly recommend her!
