Uw excursie begint vroeg in de ochtend, waarbij wij u ophalen bij uw accommodatie in Athene. Op weg naar Delphi krijgt u de gelegenheid om indrukwekkende landschappen te bewonderen. Na een rit van 2 uur komen we aan op de adembenemende archeologische vindplaats van Delphi met zijn museum, beide zul je genoeg tijd hebben om te verkennen in een privérondleiding.
Ontdek de rijke erfenis van Delphi met een bezoek aan het Archeologisch Museum en het Oude Theater. Verken in het museum een van de mooiste collecties van Griekenland, met schatten die uit het heiligdom zelf zijn opgegraven. Hoogtepunten zijn onder andere de beroemde bronzen wagenmenner, de torenhoge Sfinx van Naxos en indrukwekkende tempelfrontonen en standbeelden uit meer dan duizend jaar geschiedenis – van de Myceense tijd tot de Grieks-Romeinse periode. Je tour gaat verder bergopwaarts naar het Oude Theater van Delphi, dat zich dramatisch afspeelt op de hellingen van de berg Parnassus. Gebouwd in de 4e eeuw voor Christus en biedt plaats aan 5000 toeschouwers, dit prachtig bewaard gebleven theater organiseerde ooit voorstellingen en muzikale wedstrijden tijdens de Pythische Spelen. Vandaag de dag komt het nog steeds tot leven met culturele evenementen, met een adembenemend uitzicht over het heiligdom en de vallei eronder.
Zodra u zich over deze verbazingwekkende plek heeft vergapen, kunt u het pittoreske kustplaatsje Galaxidi, het beroemde Byzantijnse klooster van Hosios Loukas of de traditionele nederzetting van Arachova bezoeken. If you are considering a tour company for a visit to Greece, we highly recommend Athens Insider. They arranged five activities for us, and we enjoyed every one of them. They took excellent care of us, both in preparing for the trip and during the different excursions. The day trip from Athens to Delphi was excellent. Our driver Yannis was outstanding — we had him as our driver for three days, and we enjoyed our time with him as much as the sites themselves. He was a careful driver, very considerate of us and everyone on the road around us. He helped us to get to know Greece and appreciate the warmth and hospitality of its people. He added a number of little touches to our trip that made it feel very personal to us. Delphi is simply amazing. Set halfway up Mt. Parnassus, with stunning views into the valley that have changed little in centuries, Delphi was to the Greeks the center of the world, and has layer upon layer of mythology, art, architecture and history. Our guide Penny helped us make sense of all of it, first taking us through the museum, then showing us the site. That helped us interpret what we were seeing. Penny knew the site intimately, and knew how to put it in context for us, connecting what we saw to history and culture, and making sense of it for us without over simplifying or just giving us a set of “greatest hits” highlights. We also strongly recommend visiting Greece in November. We were fortunate to enjoy a week with no rain, mild temperatures, and virtually no crowds. To be able to stand in the ampitheater, looking down on the temple of Apollo and off into the distance, with not a sound and barely another person to be seen, made the visit so much more rewarding.
We enjoyed so much our tour today. The driver was a highly educated person who kept us engaged in interesting discussions all through the way. The archeological site of Delphi was a great place to learn about the Greek civilisation. We enjoyed the food so much in the restaurant we went to. It was a perfect day.
We loved our experience with Athens insiders. We had to request a Spanish speaker for my parents and they did an awesome job finding us two guides who were great! (cant remember their names sorry) The tour of Athens was a walking tour were they accommodated to our pace two older parents, and the heat. It was great we walked around the Akropolis and partheon and had ipads so we could see what the ruins actually looked like. We also went to a museum that was great and they drove us around the city. We learned so much. The transportation to Delphi was awesome and Yonnes (sp?) was unreal. The van was very large, had wifi and we explored and learned about Delphi and then had awesome lunch with Yonnes and our guide. It was one of our favorite trips by far. We are hoping to go back and plan a food walking tour through Athens insiders. We were super lucky that our tour company connected us with this local company that clearly cares and provides excellent tours without sacrificing comfort.
