Meiji-schrijn (明治神宮, Meiji Jingū) is een heiligdom gewijd aan de vergoddelijkte geesten van keizer Meiji en zijn gemalin, keizerin Shoken. Gelegen net naast het drukke Harajuku-station van de JR Yamanote-lijn, vormen de Meiji-schrijn en het aangrenzende Yoyogi-park een groot bosrijk gebied in de dichtbebouwde stad. Het ruime heiligdomterrein biedt wandelpaden die ideaal zijn voor een ontspannende wandeling. Het heiligdom werd voltooid en opgedragen aan keizer Meiji en keizerin Shoken in 1920, acht jaar na het overlijden van de keizer en zes jaar na het overlijden van de keizerin. Het heiligdom werd verwoest tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog, maar werd kort daarna herbouwd.
Harajuku (原宿) verwijst naar het gebied rond het station Harajuku in Tokio, tussen Shinjuku en Shibuya op de Yamanote-lijn. Het is het centrum van de meest extreme tienerculturen en modestijlen van Japan, maar biedt ook winkels voor volwassenen en een aantal historische bezienswaardigheden. Het brandpunt van de tienercultuur van Harajuku is Takeshita Dori (Takeshita Street) en zijn zijstraten, die worden omzoomd door vele trendy winkels, modeboetieks, tweedehands kledingwinkels, crêpekraampjes en fastfoodrestaurants gericht op de mode- en trendbewuste tieners.
Een 360° observatiedek in de open lucht op het dak van de Shibuya Scramble Square-wolkenkrabber.
De enige plek waar 7 kruispunten samenkomen en de lichten allemaal tegelijk op rood springen. Duizenden voetgangers steken dan allemaal tegelijk over. Gewoon fantastisch.
Tokyo Tower, gebouwd in 1958, dient als een symbool van Tokyo's wedergeboorte na de Tweede Wereldoorlog. De torenhoge structuur is 333 meter hoog en wordt een alomtegenwoordige fotoplek voor toeristen. Twee observatiedekken bieden een weids uitzicht over de stad en een vier verdiepingen tellend complex op de begane grond biedt winkels, eten en entertainment. Helaas was het tijdens ons bezoek vanwege Covid gesloten om de observatiedekken te bezoeken. Toch waren we erg onder de indruk, vooral met zijn lichten 's nachts. Het ligt direct naast de Zozogi-tempel en is gemakkelijk bereikbaar vanaf de stations Hamamatsucho of Daimon of de stations Onarimon of Akabenebashi
Deze bekende tempel staat naast de Tokyo Tower en op het terrein staat het mausoleum van de Tokugawa-familie.
Japan staat bekend om zijn verse zeevruchten en deze tour met kleine groepen verkent de buitenste Tsukiji-vismarkt, waar de beste chef-koks van Tokio op zoek zijn naar vis van hoge kwaliteit. Je gids leidt je door de uitgestrekte, 80 jaar oude markt om visverkopers en voedselverkopers te bezoeken. Proef een scala aan sushi, omeletten in Japanse stijl, gebakken viskoekjes, sake en Japanse thee in deze diepgaande ervaring van de legendarische markt.
Het huidige paleis is gebouwd op dezelfde plek waar Edo Castle vroeger stond. Het grootste deel van het paleisterrein is niet toegankelijk voor het publiek, behalve de oostelijke tuinen, die op bepaalde dagen toegankelijk zijn.
De Tokyo Skytree (東京スカイツリー) is een televisiezendmast en symbool van Tokio. Het is het middelpunt van de Tokyo Skytree Town in de Sumida City Ward, niet ver van Asakusa. Met een hoogte van 634 meter (634 kan worden gelezen als "Musashi", een historische naam van de regio Tokio), is het het hoogste gebouw in Japan en het op één na hoogste ter wereld op het moment van voltooiing. Aan de voet bevindt zich een groot winkelcentrum met een aquarium.
Deze populaire wijk van Tokio is de thuisbasis van vele winkels en restaurants, evenals de beroemde Senso-ji-tempel.
Sensoji (浅草寺, Sensōji, ook bekend als Asakusa Kannon-tempel) is een boeddhistische tempel in Asakusa. Het is een van Tokio's meest kleurrijke en populaire tempels. De legende zegt dat in het jaar 628 twee broers een beeld van Kannon, de godin van genade, uit de Sumida-rivier visten, en hoewel ze het beeld terug in de rivier zetten, keerde het altijd terug naar hen. Bijgevolg werd Sensoji in de buurt gebouwd voor de godin van Kannon. De tempel werd voltooid in 645 en is daarmee de oudste tempel van Tokyo.
De winkels in deze buurt verkopen keukenapparatuur en papierbenodigdheden aan restaurants in de stad. Opvallend zijn de speciale plastic etenswaren, die in de etalages van restaurants worden geplaatst om voorbijgangers te laten zien wat voor lekkers er binnen wordt geserveerd.

Hiro is a wonderful tour Guide. He speaks excellent English and is very knowledgeable about Tokyo. We had a wonderful full day excursion around Tokyo. It is a walking tour and we were pleased to have experience Tokyo's metro system with an experienced guide. Hiro took us to a fabulous sushi restaurant in the old fish market area. Was a wonderful tour! Our tour guide , Hiro showed around all several areas in Tokyo. He told us the history and showed us all the customs for the shrines. As it was mine and my husband first time in Japan it was very useful to learn the practical aspects such as how to navigate the subways and the best places to and buy souvenirs etc. We also stopped for some Sushi at a place recommended by Hiro which was delicious and also provided useful information on what to order and how best to eat the Sushi. Overall I would recommend this tour for any first time visitors to Japan - we had a fabulous time.

We loved our time with Mr. Hiri, who is an excellent and kind guide to his home city of Tokyo! We asked to walk the Imperial palace grounds on a hot day then visit Tsukiji and he was very kind and accomodating even to our grumpy, hot littles. He helped us visit an air conditioned Buddhist temple and fish market as well! After an amazing sushi place he rec'd, we had matcha ice cream from the same street. He helped us hail a cab and sent us off with a smile :-) We will recommend him to our friends & family visiting as you can learn so much more culture and history with a bilingual native!

Hiro is a great guide. Very knowledgeable not only in Japanese culture and history but also is very knowledgeable about many countries and their histories. Unfortunately, while I was there, they were having a heat and high humidity problem. But Hiro made the best of it keeping my tour as indoors as possible. Highly recommend.

This was our family's first visit to Japan and a friend highly recommended our tour guide, Hiro-san, who was lovely, highly informative, and accommodating. We had an excellent tour of Tokyo with Hiro-san over two days! Right after I booked the tour, he reached out to understand our interests. I asked a lot of questions and he answered them promptly. Hiro-san speaks fluent English and is very organized. As it's our first time in Tokyo, he helped us navigate the subway system and always make sure we know how to return to our hotel after our tour.
