Om 8.00 uur vertrekt u vanuit uw accommodatie in Rome in een luxe voertuig met een professionele Engels - en Spaans sprekende chauffeur. Geniet van een schilderachtige reis naar het hart van Toscane, reizen door de iconische Crete Senesi en glooiende groene heuvels met een prachtig panoramisch uitzicht. Uw eerste stop is een gerenommeerd wijnhuis, waar een Expert sommelier u door de wijngaarden en historische kelders Gids en het verhaal en de tradities van de lokale wijnbereiding deelt. Proef tot vijf biologische wijnen, waaronder de beroemde Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, gecombineerd met extra vergine olijfolie, vleeswaren, kazen, bruschetta, Vin Santo en traditionele cantucci. Na de proeverij kunt u de charmante middeleeuwse straatjes van Montepulciano verkennen. Als de lunch niet in de wijnmakerij werd genoten, kunt u ervoor kiezen om te dineren in een lokaal restaurant dat gespecialiseerd is in authentieke Toscaanse gerechten (niet inbegrepen)
Montepulciano is een prachtige middeleeuwse heuveltop stad rijk aan geschiedenis en traditie, met oorsprong die teruggaat tot de Etruskische beschaving in de 4e eeuw voor Christus. Omgeven door glooiende wijngaarden, is het wereldberoemd om zijn prestigieuze rode wijn, Vino Nobile. Bezoekers kunnen de iconische Torre di Pulcinella bewonderen, een historische klokkentoren bekroond door Pulcinella, een personage uit de traditionele commedia dell’arte. Op het centrale plein vindt u het 14e-eeuwse stadhuis en de kathedraal, waar een indrukwekkend altaardrieluik staat, dat een opmerkelijk kijkje biedt in het artistieke en culturele erfgoed van de stad.
Over Pienza U bezoekt het charmante stadje Pienza, gelegen in het hart van het prestigieuze platteland van Val d'Orcia. Pienza staat bekend als een architectonisch juweel en een schat van de lokale gastronomie, en is vooral beroemd om zijn uitzonderlijke Pecorino kaas, zowel vers als oud genoten. In de 15e eeuw werd wat ooit een klein versterkt dorp op een heuveltop was door paus Pius II omgetoverd tot een ideale Renaissancestad – een ambitieuze stadsvisie die vandaag de dag nog steeds de schoonheid ervan bepaalt. Je hebt ook vrije tijd om door de pittoreske straatjes, schilderachtige uitzichtpunten en ambachtelijke winkels te dwalen en de tijdloze sfeer van deze betoverende bestemming volledig te ervaren.

We had a lovely day out with our driver Alex. He was able to show us all we were after and took us to some very beautiful winery’s. Couldn’t ask for a better day.

The winery Canneto and the host Daniela at the winery were the best part. Although Alex, our driver, was a lovely man, he did not speak or understand English or Spanish. We read on a previous review that his English wasn’t great, but figured, since we speak Spanish as well (which it says he does) we’d be fine. Not so much. We were hoping for a private tour, we would have been offered more information, history, anything really…. But Alex was mostly just a driver. Not worth the price
Our driver Alessandro sometimes also called Alex, is a very good and helpful driver of ours, he is a new guy and certainly with all the good will he tried to do his best. The real Alex (named Alex) speaks Italian and Spanish at a native level, English very well but not fluent. The tour includes wine tasting in English which would be the most important part of the activity, Alessando's level was sufficient to understand and make the drop-off and pick-up in the small towns to visit understood, maybe some panoramic explanation of the place but not at the level of a tourist guide. The driver acts as a guide because he takes you to make the stops and visits before the main attraction of the service: THE WINE TASTING IN ENGLISH.
We were on a cruise and took an extra day to leave from Rome to drive to Tuscany. Our driver was very nice, absolutely punctual and very experienced driver. However with limited English and needing to communicate somewhat thru Spanish a very second language to me it was difficult. We drove to the beautiful towns of Pienza and Montepulciano. We were not however prepared to tour the towns and glean any history or knowledge other than pictures on our own. I'm happy we were able to experience Tuscany but would make sure that should we do it again, with someone speaking full English.

This was the highlight of our stay in Rome. We had initially booked a different tour, and rebooked a private tour when a member of our group had last minute surgery. BEST DECISION we could have made. We agreed that this was well worth the money. We were picked up by our guide Alessandro who from the beginning was prompt, polite and very accommodating to the member of our group that was on crutches. We drove from Rome to Pienza. On the way we stopped a beautiful castle for photos. In Pienza, Alessandro accompanied us and told us about the city, walked around the shops and we tasted delicious cheeses, vinegar and olive oil. We traveled to Montepulciano where we were greeted by Daniela and toured the cellars. Daniela was personable and knowledgeable. The tour was the perfect length and we sampled many, many wines and olive oil. The views from the vineyard were stunning. We could not stop talking about what an amazing day it had been. We ended up purchasing wine and olive oil because it was so delicious. We opted to have lunch at a restaurant (there were some picky eaters in the group), and Alessandro brought us to a lovely restaurant. We do not speak Italian, and Alessandro stayed with us until we ordered to ensure the order was placed correctly. The lunch was absolutely delicious! We really appreciated the kindness and hospitality provided throughout the tour. We traveled as 3 sisters in our late 20’s- early 30’s and our mom who is in her 60’s, and all of us said we would do this again in a heartbeat! I truly cannot recommend this tour enough!

So, we saw Rome. Venice and Positano- but none can compare with our day at Montepulciano! Franco was our guide-so friendly and jovial. We were picked up in a black Mercedes sedan and transported from our hotel and back to our hotel. The town has rustic charm and simplicity, medieval architecture, sweet transformation into a Christmas village and amazing vistas and views of countless olive trees and grapes connected by narrow yet intimate stony streets made for an amazing romantic experience. The wine, cheese and meat tasting was amazing (they ship to home)and so was the lively market in the town center where you could pick up all the meats and cheeses you could imagine, along with pasta, pastries, olive oils. If you’re clothes shopping, better off in Positano. We would love to come just to stay here for a week or two. Peaceful tranquility!
