Breng de dag door op de paden en bezoek eeuwenoude en gigantische Alerce-dennenbomen, een UNESCO-biosfeerreservaat. We nemen de route Carretera Austral zuidwaarts, kronkelend rond de prachtige beboste fjord van Reloncaví, onder de met sneeuw bedekte Andes-bergen. De Carretera Austral staat ook bekend als Rte. 7 en begint net buiten de stadsgrenzen van Puerto Montt. We bereiken Parque Nacional Alerce Andino. Dit 39.255 hectare grote (96.960 acre) park is de thuisbasis van de alerce (fitzroyacupresoides), die vaak wordt vergeleken met de sequoia vanwege zijn dikke diameter en hoogte. Deze eerbiedwaardige reuzen kunnen meer dan 3.000 jaar oud worden, wat ze de op één na oudste boom maakt, na de Amerikaanse borstelkegeldennen. Andere soorten in het park zijn de groenblijvende beuk, mañío, canelo, ulmo en dikke varens. Het kan hier het hele jaar door behoorlijk nat worden, dus neem voor de zekerheid regenkleding mee. Na 1 uur rijden beginnen we de wandeling vanaf het loket van de parkwachter.

Our experience with Maria and Patagonia Trails was excellent. Communication was clear and prompt to set up booking. We had a fabulous walk guided by Maria in Alerce Andino. She described points of interest on the drive and was very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna in the park which enhanced the experience. All arrangements were taken care of with transport and good boxed lunch. Would highly recommend Patagonia Trails, thank you Maria for a wonderful day.
This is a beautiful park with lush vegetation and unique trees. Maria is a wonderful guide whose interest in the natural world shows. She was attentive, helpful and punctual. Made for a great day trip from Puerto Varas
My boyfriend and I went on a hike in the Alerce Andino Nacional Park with Maria. She was just amazing making sure we kept a good pace but also explaining us all things about plants and animals we were encountering on our way. It was like being in our own personalised national geographic documentary :) She is extremely knowledgeable not just about Chile but also other part of Southern America and as we plan to get back to that part of the world, we very much look forward to go on another adventure with her!!

Amazing day and experience with Maria Abud as our tour guide. Maria speaks great English and very knowledgeable about the culture, history and agriculture. Her and Mauricio were always on time with water and comfortable transportation. Great hike, 7.4 miles with 750 ft elevation gain (about 3.5 hrs). Coliguachos were out but a beautiful hike along a creek with a waterfall and lagoon at the end. Gorgeous trees that are 2,500+ years old. Had a rain forest feel with some puma beds but thankfully no pumas.
