Dürnstein is een pittoresk Oostenrijks stadje gelegen in het hart van het Wachautal. Wandel door de charmante straatjes en ontdek de legende van Robin Hood’s tijdperk – hier werd koning Richard het Leeuwenhart in 1192 gevangen gehouden na zijn inname in de buurt van Wenen, vlak voor Kerstmis.
Abdij van Melk is een van de grootste en mooiste Europese barokensembles. De prachtige architectuur is wereldwijd beroemd en maakt deel uit van het werelderfgoed van UNESCO. Het barokke gebouw op een rots met uitzicht op de Donau, in de regio Wachau, geldt als een van de meest bezochte kunsthistorische bezienswaardigheden van Oostenrijk.
Reis vervolgens comfortabel via de snelweg van Melk naar het Salzburger Merengebied – een directe route die ons in staat stelt om uw tijd in deze prachtige regio te maximaliseren.
De tocht gaat verder met een schilderachtige rit over de volle lengte van de Attersee – van Seewalchen naar het charmante dorpje aan het meer Unterach. Ooit kreeg Unterach in de 19e eeuw de bijnaam "Klein Venetië" en ligt aan de zuidpunt van het meer. De wereldberoemde kunstenaar Gustav Klimt bracht hier zijn zomers door tussen 1900 en 1916 en legde de schoonheid van de regio vast in veel van zijn beroemde landschapsschilderijen.
Het volgende is het schilderachtige en charmante dorp Mondsee. Het dorp is de thuisbasis van de Sound of Music Wedding Church, waar de trouwlocatie van de wereldberoemde film Sound of Music werd gefilmd.

Our full-day tour from Vienna to Salzburg with Manfred was one of the highlights of our trip. He arrived in a spacious, new Mercedes-Benz van, stocked with cold water and plenty of room to travel comfortably throughout the day. Why waste a travel day going from Vienna to Salzburg by taking a train? My wife and I instead made the trip with MCM Tours, and the drive was one of the highlights of our vacation. The guide and driver took us to see a vineyard and castle, charming small towns, breathtaking views of the Alps, and lunch alongside a mountain lake. So not only did we travel to our next hotel, my wife and I got to experience the Austrian countryside up close, learn more about its history and culture, and meet two wonderful people who live in the area along the way. What better way to go from one city to the next when there is so much countryside to experience along the way?
An outstanding tour focusing on Salzburg and The Sound of Music shooting locations. Also, we were lucky to get to Salzburg the last day of August, which corresponded to the last day of the world famous Salzburg Festival. We got tickets months in advance via the internet. Fortunately, it was Mahler's 9th Symphony. It's soft ending was a premonition of his premature death from heart disease. If you got to the Festival, Dress up; no jeans, t-shirts and flip flops. Our guide Manfred was fantastic.

We traveled with Manfred from Salzburg to Vienna through the Wachau Valley, and saw all of the beauty along the way. Manfred showed us sparkling lakes, vineyards, the Danube river, and old towns. He knows all of the stops along the way. Our group found this day to be a highlight of our entire trip. Having Manfred plan the tour, and escort us to these places made this area accessible to us which was a really unique way to experience this part of Austria. I enthusiastically recommend this tour with Manfred!
Our guide was perfect, very personable and had great recommendations. Going up to the castle ruins will no doubt be a highlight of our trip. We considered taking a train and I am so glad that we chose this route instead. We got to see more than the two main cities (Vienna and Salzburg) and that deepened the experience of our whole trip.

We are extremely interested in all thing "Sound of Music" and he had all the answers, took us to secret spots for amazing pictures, and left us with smiles on our faces.
