Verlaat je hotel voor zonsopgang, met je deskundige gids, ga Angkor Wat in het donker binnen vanaf de oostelijke poort en vervolg je reis te voet en kruip door een junglepad naar de noordelijke poel (Angkor Wat is enorm, en je weet dat het voor je ligt , je kunt het gewoon nog niet zien) en wacht op de opkomst van de zon. Vervolgens waag je je diep in de centrale kamers en naar de bovenste terrassen van deze werkelijk grote tempel. Je Tour deelt je alle geschiedenis en cultuur. Na het ontbijt bezoekt u de Zuidpoort van Angkor Thom, Bayon met 4 gezichten, Baphuon en Vimeanakas, deze bevindt zich binnen de ommuurde ruimte van het voormalige koninklijke paleis van het Khmer-rijk. Ontdek vervolgens het beroemde Terras van Olifant en de melaatse koning. Vervolgens bezoek je het door de jungle omgeven Ta Prohm. Angkor Wat is het grootste religieuze monument ter wereld. Het werd gebouwd in de 12e eeuw. Als de best bewaarde tempel op de site, is het de enige die sinds de oprichting een belangrijk religieus centrum is gebleven. We zullen de grote tempel in duisternis binnengaan vanaf de weinig bezochte oostkant. We vervolgen onze reis te voet en kruipen door een junglepad naar het oude bibliotheekzwembad in het noorden waar we zullen wachten op de zonsopgang. Luister naar de uitleg van je deskundige gids en breng dan tijd door in de centrale kamers van de tempel, waar je lokale gids de geschiedenis, mythen en verhalen zal onthullen die zijn afgebeeld op de stenen bas-reliëfs (het langste stuk bas-reliëfs in de wereld) dan waag je je diep in de centrale kamers van deze werkelijk grote tempel. Uw deskundige gids zal ervoor zorgen dat uw bezoek aan Angkor Wat u een rijk begrip geeft van de geschiedenis en het doel van de grote tempel, en ook van de machtige Angkoriaanse beschaving.
De South Gate is een van de vijf poorten van Angkor Thom (de oude hoofdstad van het Khmer-rijk). De poort geflankeerd door een rij van 54 stenen figuren aan elke kant was de toegang tot de versterkte stad Angkor Thom. Op het hoogtepunt van zijn grootsheid had Angkor Thom een bevolking van meer dan een miljoen mensen en was groter in omvang dan de stad Londen. Het is een van de meest populaire toeristische plekken in het Angkor Wat-gebied.

Verborgen juweeltje: Je gids neemt je mee naar een plek die de meeste toeristen nog nooit hebben gezien. Reizen is het enige dat je koopt en waar je rijker van wordt.
Phimeanakas (hemelse tempel) of Vimeanakas gebouwd aan het einde van de 10e eeuw, tijdens het bewind van Rajendravarman (van 941-968), vervolgens voltooid door Suryavarman I in de vorm van de drievoudige piramides als een hindoetempel. Op de top van de piramide was een toren, terwijl aan de rand van het bovenste platform galerijen zijn. Phimeanakas bevindt zich in de ommuurde omheining van het Koninklijk Paleis van Angkor Thom.
Het beroemde terras van de melaatse koning. Sommigen denken dat de U-vormige structuur is gebruikt als koninklijke crematieplaats. Het werd gebouwd in de 13e eeuw onder koning Jayavarman VII, hoewel de moderne naam is afgeleid van een 15e-eeuws beeldhouwwerk dat op de site is ontdekt. Het beeld stelt de hindoegod Yama voor, de god van de dood.
Geheime halte: Een majestueuze plek die de toon zette voor het avontuur van de dag. Luister niet naar wat ze zeggen, maar ga kijken. Alle reizen hebben geheime bestemmingen waarvan de reizigers zich niet bewust zijn.
Het 350 m lange Terras van Olifanten werd gebruikt als een gigantische revisiestand voor openbare ceremonies en diende als basis voor het grote publiek van de koning. Sommige lokale Khmer-inwoners noemen het "het oude Khmer-stadion". Het werd gebouwd in de 13e eeuw onder koning Jayavarman VII.
De met jungle omhulde Ta Prohm (Tomb raider-tempel) - is een van de meest sfeervolle van alle tempels in Angkor. Ta Prohm werd gebouwd in de 13e eeuw. In tegenstelling tot de meeste Angkoriaanse tempels, bevindt Ta Prohm zich in vrijwel dezelfde staat als waarin het werd gevonden, de fotogenieke en sfeervolle combinatie van bomen die uit de ruïnes groeien en de jungle-omgeving hebben het tot een van de meest populaire tempels van Angkor met bezoekers gemaakt. UNESCO heeft Ta Prohm in 1992 op de Werelderfgoedlijst gezet. Tegenwoordig is het een van de meest bezochte complexen in de Angkor-regio van Cambodja. Ta Prohm was een religieuze tempel in het centrum van de oude Khmer-universiteit in de 12e en 13e eeuw.

This tour was Excellent! Our tour guide Sim went out of his way to ensure a seamless day of adventure. From the start, Sim checked in with our hotel the day before to ensure an on time pick-up the next morning. We met Sim waiting for us in the lobby at 4:30. From there, him and our lovely driver took us to Angkor Wat for a beautiful sunrise. He knew a great and comfortable spot for viewing. We proceeded to explore the site, Sim was extremely knowledgeable and pointed out all the good photo spots. Our driver always met us without any waiting and had cold waters for us. The day exceeded our expectations and we managed to visit 10 sites. We finished around 12pm. Highly recommend

We took a four day private tour of the Angkor / Siem Reap region with Rith as our guide/host/translator. He picked us up at the airport and dropped us off 4 days later and everything was flawlessly planned and executed - hotel drops/pickups, meals, park entry permits, etc. Rith also proved to be adept at making adjustments to the itinerary for weather or for our preferences ie stay longer or shorter at a given site. The car was modern, clean and comfortable and the air conditioning and ice water were lifesaving in the relentless heat of late April. Rith is extremely knowledgeable about the history of the region and the temples and other sites that we visited, and he is able to go into very deep detail if questioned! (His English is flawless). In addition to the historical sites, Rith also provided guidance around cultural norms & expectations, attire, shopping negotiation, tipping, exploring the city on our own, etc. Rith made our trip to Cambodia a fantastic experience and provided many memories. As for the Angkor region - it’s overwhelming!! Definitely a must-see !

Bunnarith “Rith” was my guide for 9 days. Angkor Wat is absolutely a must see….but with Rith, my guide, and his driver, we dug a little deeper into the beauty and poignancy of this exquisite country. We explored all the major temples over 9 days in Siem Reap & Phnom Phen… interspersed with a countryside visit to Ohm Pheach’s Golden Silk farm with the extraordinary handwork (credit cards accepted, cash much appreciated), Down the road a piece was the land mine museum — a “must see” for folks interested in all forms of war ordnance found throughout the country. Off to the side was its founder, a quiet, unassuming former child warrior, AkiRa, whose extraordinary story of an orphan recruited at 5 years old to work the fields and at 10 yrs old began toting an AK-47. His path from child warrior to caring for others, including orphans and children mutilated by land mines, is heartbreaking, yet at the same time, gives us hope for a better world. Som Orn’s silver shop in SR is beautiful, too…credit cards accepted…I bought several exquisitely carved silver bowls. Som Orn was 1 of 4 surviving silversmiths determined to share his knowledge and craftsmanship with the younger generation. Please do not leave this country without visiting the Genocide Museum and the Killing Fields museum. Ok; we do not go on vacation to be horrified by what humans are capable of doing to each other. But to visit these museums is to pay our respect to the many, many people who suffered in such tragedy…. And to realize that within each of us, in similar circumstances, is the ability to engage in like manner, regardless of color, creed, gender, or any other loftiness we may ascribe to ourselves. Only 12 survived the Killing Fields torture chambers, and 4 were at the museum that day with books to sign & photos with you,,, books were $20 each (cash); splurge for these….these historical accounts must be shared; maybe donate the books to your library after you’ve read them. Venture to the “local, local” hotels, which are gorgeous, very reasonably priced, clean, have hot water, scrumptious buffet breakfast with SE Asian and Western options, friendly staff, beautiful pools, and relaxing spa options. Please be respectful with your clothing and language…cover your arms and legs at the temples & remove shoes before entering the temples and the national palace. When dining & walking thru the lobbies, modest clothing for women is appreciated. Even though cocktails or wine are plentiful, please keep voices low so as to be heard only by friends at your table. Ask Rith to take to you for the sticky coconut buns at the roadside market — somewhere on the way to a temple —which make my mouth water as I write this… the “assembly line” makes McDonald’s appear infantile by comparison! Don’t worry, I ate selected street foods and at local restaurants and had no stomach or intestinal issues….Rith will take you only to the spots he knows are reputable and safe. Vendors, shop owners, tuktuk drivers, markets, and food stalls take cash; US $s were accepted, but make sure to have fresh, crisp bills with no rips, folds, or wrinkles. Tuk-Tuk drivers were kind, some funny, and competent to get from A to B for the cash price agreed in advance. Oh, and I must mention our driver’s wife ran a stall with a sugar cane press for freshly squeezed cup of sugar cane juice with a squeeze of lemon juice… OMG… thought I had died and gone to heaven it was so refreshing! If you want to leave a little bit more behind than agreed pricing and tips, please consider purchasing a water filtration device for a family; it’s less than $50 and can have a tremendous impact for a family and the community. Rith found some made in Cambodia, by Cambodians, and for Cambodians…I really liked that! As a guide, Rith was extremely knowledgeable, very resourceful, kind, and I felt very safe traveling alone; he is one of the best with whom I have worked in any part of the world. This is a country of lovely people with a long, rich history. Please admire and help preserve this beautiful country.

Great service and guides! From the beginning, the team was very detail-oriented and thorough as I made my booking via email.
