Aankomst op Mont Saint-Michel en bezoek aan de Benedictijnenabdij Onze gids neemt je mee door de smalle straatjes van het middeleeuwse dorp naar de top van de abdij. Meestal lukt het ons om deel te nemen aan de rondleiding onder leiding van een expert op het gebied van de Mont Saint-Michel en zijn geschiedenis. Wanneer dit om een of andere reden niet mogelijk is, zorgen wij voor de audiogidsen voor het bezoek aan de abdij. Het werd voor het eerst door mensen bewoond in het jaar 709 en bevat een middeleeuws dorp en een prachtig abdijfort gewijd aan Sint-Michiel de Aartsengel. De bouw van de benedictijnenabdij begon in de 19e eeuw en ging door tot in de 13e eeuw. Het blijft praktisch hetzelfde sinds de Middeleeuwen, aangezien het nog steeds het doel is van pelgrims en toeristen van over de hele wereld. Mont Saint Michel blijft de meest bezochte plek in Frankrijk met ongeveer 4 miljoen toeristen per jaar. Na het abdijbezoek heb je vrije tijd om te genieten van de stad Mont Saint-Michel en tijd voor de lunch.
Vertrek vanaf Mont Saint Michel terug naar Parijs. Er wordt één stop gemaakt bij de rustruimte.

Long day, totally worth it. Pickup at our hotel, an easy drive with a quick coffee stop, then the Calvados tasting... fun and not salesy. We joined the guided visit at the Abbey and learned a ton. After that, free time to wander the tiny streets and grab lunch. Zero stress!!!
Bring good shoes and your camera. The angles inside the Abbey, the stone streets, the bay... it’s all photogenic. Our guide knew where to find the less crowded viewpoints. I appreciated the rest stop on the way and that the schedule left time to explore on my own.
We were worried about the logistics and the walking, but the pacing was thoughtful. Comfortable car, careful driver, and the guide pointed out places to rest on the way up. We took it slow and still saw the Abbey and the village. A big tick off the list without feeling exhausted.
We departed over 30 minutes late, which significantly reduced our time at the main site. The guide seemed rushed and did not provide much historical context; the explanations were brief and lacked depth, giving the impression that they were either unprepared or simply uninterested.
Just to clarify – the tour departed at 7:30am as scheduled. While we did receive your request for an earlier departure (7:00am), it was sent at the very last minute and unfortunately couldn’t be accommodated with such short notice. At the main site – Mont-Saint-Michel – you had 4 full hours to explore, which is the maximum duration this tour can realistically provide given the long-distance nature of the day. Please keep in mind that Mont-Saint-Michel is not just outside Paris – it’s located nearly 4 hours away by road, each way. To make the journey more enjoyable, we’ve included a Calvados tasting en route, which typically lasts around an hour and gives a regional flavour to the experience. We understand the desire for more historical context, and we will follow up with the guide to ensure they meet our standards in providing engaging and informative commentary. As for the timing – until they invent teleportation, we’re working with the laws of physics. We appreciate your understanding and hope you were still able to enjoy the magic of Mont-Saint-Michel.
