Uw ervaren Egyptoloog-gids begint uw verkenning van de Westelijke Jordaanoever van Luxor door u op te halen bij uw hotel of Nijlcruise in een voertuig met airconditioning. Je eerste bestemming is de beroemde Vallei der Koningen, een plek met een grote historische betekenis. In de vallei vind je in totaal 63 graven, die elk een uniek verhaal vertellen over het oude verleden van Egypte. De koninklijke graven in dit gebied zijn versierd met ingewikkelde afbeeldingen uit de Egyptische mythologie, die waardevolle inzichten bieden in de overtuigingen van die tijd.
Vervolgens vervolg je je reis naar de prachtige tempel van koningin Hatsjepsoet, ook wel bekend als Deir el-Bahari. Koningin Hatsjepsoet, wier naam zich vertaalt naar 'Voorste van de Edele Dames', zou een cruciale rol hebben gespeeld bij het tot stand brengen van de eerste handelsroutes in Egypte. De indrukwekkende architectuur en het historische belang van de tempel maken het tot een plek die je zeker moet bezoeken.
Je tour neemt je vervolgens mee naar de Kolossen van Memnon, twee kolossale beelden uitgehouwen uit kwartsietzandsteen. Er wordt aangenomen dat deze beelden ooit de ingang van de herdenkingstempel van Amenhotep bewaakten. De Kolossen van Memnon bieden een fantastisch decor voor fotografie, en je krijgt hier de kans om enkele memorabele momenten vast te leggen.
Na deze boeiende tour wordt u teruggebracht naar uw hotel of Nijlcruise, waardoor u blijvende herinneringen aan de rijke geschiedenis van Luxor en opmerkelijke archeologische vindplaatsen achterlaat.
Het graf van Toetanchamon (KV62) werd in 1922 ontdekt door de Britse archeoloog Howard Carter in de Vallei der Koningen nabij Luxor, Egypte. Dit was een belangrijke archeologische vondst, aangezien het graf van Toetanchamon een van de weinige oude Egyptische koninklijke graven was die grotendeels intact werd gevonden. Toetanchamon was een farao van de 18e dynastie die regeerde van ongeveer 1332-1323 voor Christus. Hij besteeg als kind de troon en zijn regering was relatief kort, slechts ongeveer 9 jaar. Het graf bevatte meer dan 5.000 artefacten, waaronder de sarcofaag en doodskisten van Toetanchamon, begrafenismeubilair, strijdwagens, kleding, sieraden en tal van andere schatten. Veel van deze artefacten zijn nu gehuisvest in het Egyptisch Museum in Caïro en zijn belangrijke trekpleisters voor bezoekers. Het graf was opmerkelijk goed bewaard gebleven vergeleken met andere koninklijke graven, die door de eeuwen heen waren geplunderd. Hierdoor konden archeologen een ongekend inzicht verwerven in de oude Egyptische begrafenispraktijken en de materiële cultuur van de periode van het Nieuwe Rijk.

Nasser was an excellent guide. Very knowledgeable and passionate about Egypt and its history. This was our first private tour and he put us at ease and looked after us well. He even accommodated a very short notice change of pick up location after we discovered our river cruise boat had docked somewhere other than expected. Ahmed is a good guide who knows his subject. He is patient and helpful and kindly took pictures of us at the different places of the visit. There was also a visit to a shop for a demonstration of stonemasons and we do not push you to buy.
