De strategische ligging maakte het aantrekkelijk voor verschillende beschavingen, waaronder de Romeinen en de Moren. Moorse invloed: De Moren, die het Iberisch schiereiland eeuwenlang bezetten, hebben een belangrijke stempel op Sintra gedrukt. Our guide, Paulo, was exceptional and the tour was one of the best we’ve ever taken. Paulo, is well versed in the history and culture of these areas and surrounding areas. He knew where the secret gems were and allowed us to take as much or as little time as we wanted at each site. The restaurant he took us too was one of the best, the food and service were top notch. This was an exceptional trip and would highly recommend the tour and Paulo.

Extremely comfortable vehicle with plenty of space for our group. Our guide Pedro was very knowledgeable and friendly, also extremely patient as we were traveling with our 4 year old son who Pedro paid extra close attention to in order to engage him during the tours. Well worth the money to have this level of private tour experience.

Extremely disappointed that tour guide decided to not show up at our hotel at 8:45 am as agreed for a full day (8 hour) private tour of Sintra and Casciais for a party of 6. It was our final day in Lisbon and was going to be the highlight of our trip. He did not contact us to cancel. We stood outside our hotel for him to show for over an hour. He did not answer our calls or respond to email. We were so frustrated and was finally able to find a phone number for Viator. They also tried to reach tour guide, but no luck. The only thing they could do was to offer us a refund which will take 2 weeks. Viator should be confirming with tour guide prior to each tour. We are in Europe for next 4 weeks and have 2 more tours set up with Viator. I’m scared they won’t show up. I would not recommend booking with this company.

The perfect day spent with a Pedro. Excellent tour guide, very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Pena Palace was incredible but our favorite part was the Port tasting. Yum!!
Basically, if you spend some time to research, and rent a car, you can do this on your own. The drive/guide was very professional, courteous, spoke perfect English, and was telling us about each place during the drive there. My only expectation is that he would tour with us and explain more on each site, whereas it was not the case, he was waiting in the car.

Left a little early (big plus) for the trip to Pena Palace avoiding both transportation hassles and very long lines (some relatively short waits but the palace was not jammed inside). We would suggest scheduling should be 30 min earlier. Driver was very knowledgeable both on the palace tour and after, and we were asked about things that interested us which shaped some of the rest of the day (shopping, sightseeing, lunch). Lunch was confusing when we booked because it was not addressed in the promotional materials, so we brought some snacks which turned out to be unnecessary - Delightful lunch out near the west most point of Europe. Returned to our pickup point - the doorstep of our hotel in Lisbon. Nice day!

Our tour with Pedro was the highlight of our vacation. He has a very welcoming and engaging personality that made us feel like he was more of a friend than a tour guide. His driving was very safe and smooth. His knowledge of the areas we visited and of general Portuguese history was phenomenal. We chatted with him for the entire day. It was such a great opportunity to spend a day with a native of Portugal, we valued getting to know him and the wonderful Portuguese culture.
