Het Nationaal Etruskisch museum in Villa Giulia wordt beschouwd als het meest representatieve Italiaanse museum van de Etruskische beschaving en bevindt zich in Villa Giulia, de voorstad van Paus Jules III (1550-55), ontworpen door Vignola en gerealiseerd met de medewerking van Ammannati en Vasari. In 1889 was de villa voorbestemd om het Museum van de pre-Romeinse oudheden van Latium te zijn. Twee vleugels werden toegevoegd tussen 1912 en 1923. Specifieke secties zijn ook gewijd aan Etruskische epigrafie, aan de geschiedenis van het museum en aan het architectonische complex van Valle Giulia. Van bijzonder belang zijn de exposities van: - de Apollo uit Veio (zesde eeuw v.Chr.) - de sarcofaag van de echtgenoten uit Cerveteri (zesde eeuw v.Chr.) - het hoogreliëf en de gouden dunne platen uit Pyrgi (vijfde eeuw voor Christus) - de Apollo dello Scasato uit Falerii (vierde eeuw voor Christus) - de Centaur uit Vulci (zesde eeuw v.Chr.) - de zogenaamde Cista Ficoroni uit Palestrina (vierde eeuw voor Christus).

This is a wonderful museum that deserves to be seen by more visitors. It’s a bit off the beaten path but is a lovely hidden gem with a beautiful garden. Our guide, Vincenzo, made the history of the Etruscans come alive for us. Lovely exhibits and no crowds in May when we visited.
We loved our private tour with Vincenzo. He was prompt and courteous. A spirited guide who obviously enjoys his work, Vincenzo showed us the top highlights of this very interesting, major collection of Etruscan artifacts housed in the beautiful Villa Giulia. Next time we're in Rome we will be sure to engage his services again.
