Beschrijving
Tijdens deze tour met een privégids maak je kennis met de werkplaats en het laatste huis van de schilder Joaquín Sorolla, samen met zijn tijdelijke tentoonstellingen. Het Sorolla Museum heeft ook de belangrijkste werken van de kunstenaar, ingedeeld in verschillende categorieën. Het is een van de mooiste en meest huiselijke musea in Madrid, evenals een van de best bewaarde huizen in Europa. Na de dood van zijn weduwe werd het gebouw omgebouwd tot museum. Ontworpen door Enrique María Repullés, werd het uitgeroepen tot een troef van cultureel belang in 1962. De belangrijkste kamers zijn nog steeds ingericht zoals ze waren tijdens het leven van de kunstenaar, inclusief Sorolla's grote, goed verlichte studio, waar de muren zijn bekleed met zijn doeken. Andere kamers worden gebruikt als galerijen om Sorolla's schilderijen tentoon te stellen, terwijl de kamers erboven een galerij zijn voor speciale tentoonstellingen. Mis deze unieke hoek van Madrid niet!

Unfortunately the Madrid house museum is closed for restoration but if you want to see the works of this painter you can come to Valencia where his beautiful paintings are exhibited in an exhibition set up by the "Banking Foundation" that I visited today. They are expected to return to Madrid in late April 2026.

The tour guide cancelled via email the night before the tour. I saw the cancellation at midnight and was able to buy tickets direct from the venue. The audio guide available there was excellent. You don't need a guide for this museum.

Carla was an excellent guide, she knew so much about Sorolla. The house is beautiful and the paintings and sculptures were wonderful. It was also great to see how the family lived in the house, the old photos etc were so interesting.

Knowledgeable and friendly guide . Beautiful gem of a museum . Quite small but great if you love the work of Sorolla. Well worth a visit.

Was there on Tuesday 05/04: closed floor without explanation, part of the promised works not present or not visible (upstairs?). Coming from Bordeaux on purpose, and although the place is superb, I was disappointed.
