Guatape, deze oostelijke gemeente in Antioquia, op anderhalf uur van Medellin, opent een wereld van kleur tussen de straten, versierd met plinten die verhalen vertellen over de stad en haar inwoners. Ze noemen het ook de binnenzee van Antioquia, de Acapulco van Colombia, het binnenland van Cartagena, Paraíso Paisa, Remanso de Paz, het hart van het oosten van Antioquia. Het werd genoemd ter ere van Cacique Guatapé, een inwoner van dit gebied in de pre-Spaanse periode. Een andere naam die hij heeft gehad, is de Ceja de Guatapé. De rots van Guatapé of Piedra del Peñol, is een monoliet 220 meter hoog gelegen in Guatapé (Antioquia, Colombia). De steen van El Peñol, bestaande uit kwarts, veldspaat en mica, werd voor het eerst beklommen op 16 juli 1954 door een bewoner van het gebied, Luis Eduardo Villegas López. in het gezelschap van Ramon Diaz en Pedro Nel Ramírez behoort de steen tot nu toe nog steeds tot de familie Villegas. Je hebt nu toegang tot de top door 740 treden te beklimmen die in de monoliet zijn gebouwd.

This was a perfectly organized day trip from Medellin to Guatapé. We had plenty of time to see all the sites without feeling rushed. The real star though was our guide, Hector. He is hands down one of the greatest guides we’ve ever had. He was incredibly thoughtful and went out of his way to make sure our day was extra special. We’re so thankful for the opportunity to meet him and explore Colombia together.

Excellent tour, 100% recommended, we were a total of 8 people in the family, we had a super good time, the tour was excellent, the guides were always attentive and respectful, I would definitely return.

This tour was definitely worth it if you’re interested in spending a day in Guatape as it includes so much. Plan for the weather since except for the drive, the entire day is spent outdoors. We climbed the Peñol rock, which was a bit challenging but worth it for the views from the top and everyone can go at their own pace. It costs extra but only about 30,000 pesos. From there, we visited the colorful town for shopping and snacks, and afterwards we had lunch and enjoyed the boat ride. We felt like we experienced just enough for this trip but would definitely come back again. Nelson was our guide and he was fantastic.

The private tour was top notch. Comfortable sprinter van for the ride. Lunch was delicious. Our tour Guide Arturo was awesome. He gave us very detailed information of guatape and the history. We stopped and did the boat tour of the lake surrounding the big rock. Then went to The rock. It's a hard climb to the top but worth it. Ended rhe tour in the town pf guatape which was full of local culture. I highly recommend this private tour. Was well worth the price which wasn't expensive. No complaints at all
