Tijdens onze rondleiding door de Heilige Kerk van Rome, begeleidt uw persoonlijke chauffeur en deskundige theoloog u in een premium luxe voertuig naar 3 van de 4 pauselijke basilieken, evenals de basiliek van Santa Croce. Deze vier kerken staan op de "must see" lijst als je Rome bezoekt! De basiliek van Mary Major, ook bekend als Our Lady of Snows, is de thuisbasis van de wieg van het kindje Jezus, is de grootste kerk voor Maria in Rome. Daarna krijgt u de Sint-Jan van Lateranen te zien, de kathedraal van Rome met de zetel van de bisschop van Rome, en de Sint-Paulus buiten de muren. In de Basiliek van het Heilig Kruis zie je veel relikwieën van de Passie van Christus, waaronder stukken van de doornenkroon en het eigenlijke kruis van Jezus. Het is echt een heilige en eerbiedige ervaring met een van onze toptheologen om je op deze tour te vergezellen!

Je eerste stop is de Basiliek van het Heilige Kruis in Jeruzalem. Een geschenk van Constantijn I aan zijn moeder Helen, die een kleine kapel bouwde om de relieken van het Heilige Kruis te huisvesten die ze in Jeruzalem vond en naar Rome vervoerde. Later werd deze kleine kapel, oorspronkelijk de basiliek Eleniana, de grote basiliek die het nu is. Deze basiliek is ook een van de haltes op de "7 kerken"-route die pelgrims vroeger te voet maakten tijdens de Goede Week.
Stop vervolgens bij de kathedraal van Rome en de zetel van de paus zelf. De aartsbasiliek van Sint-Jan van Lateranen is de belangrijkste kerk ter wereld en de oudste! Het is een van de 4 pauselijke basilieken in Rome en was tot de 14e eeuw de oorspronkelijke residentie van de pausen.
Vervolgens zie je de basiliek waarvan wordt gezegd dat deze in opdracht van de Heilige Maagd Maria zelf is gebouwd! Ze verscheen aan zowel paus Liberius als een Romeinse patriciër, Giovanni, en vertelde hen dat ze wilde dat er een kerk ter ere van haar werd gebouwd. Op 5 augustus stuurde de Heilige Moeder een wonderbaarlijke sneeuwval, die op de Esquiline-heuvel rustte en de indeling van de kerk schetste! Zo verdiende ze haar de naam "Lady of the Snows", en de basiliek is nu de thuisbasis van de kribbe van het Christuskind.
Je laatste stop is St. Paul's Outside the Walls. Gelegen aan de rand van de oude Aureliaanse muur, was de begraafplaats van St. Paul oorspronkelijk een klein herdenkingsgebouw genaamd een Cella Memoriae. Constantijn I liet echter een grotere basiliek bouwen bovenop de Cella Memoriae ter ere van St. Paul. Het is verschillende keren gesloopt en herbouwd en heeft vele restauraties en uitbreidingen ondergaan. Het was de grootste kerk in Rome totdat de Sint-Pietersbasiliek werd gebouwd.

I reach out to Europe Odsessey for multiple tours because thoroughly enjoyed them last year in Rome/ Vatican. We did holy churches without a luxury car- Michael was also very knowledgeable, professional, and kind shown us all the beautiful baroque churches while not everyone is a big fan of visiting churches, I genuinely appreciated all the effort he put into the tour experiences. All of the tours were wonderful, and I really appreciate how smoothly everything was organized. It truly felt like the best of Europe. Mirella was incredibly informative and knowledgeable about the arts in Florence. She easily brought me to places that I was curious about- Kaws exhibit, wine in the hole, and the santa maria novella perfume. And Irene in Paris was fantastic as well; she took us to some beautiful churches(Miraculous medal) also went above and beyond for an additional stop at roland garros- and shared so much insight. Rick Steves was right—I’m so glad we chose this company again for our tours! Thank you for making everything easy and enriching for my dad and my uncle. making everything so accomodating for us. What an amazing time! European Odyssey went out of their way to schedule our church tour at a good time - such amazing communication! They accommodated our schedule and worked around local events. Our driver was punctual at 8:30 and picked us up in a nice Mercedes. We met our guide at the first church. Justin was very knowledgeable and never rushed us. Both the driver and guide were exceptional.
