Praten over de Douro-vallei is praten over een van de oudste wijngebieden ter wereld. Hoogtepunt van de prachtige stad Amarante, in het groenachtige noorden van Portugal, werd het klooster São Gonçalo in 1540 gesticht door koning D. João III. Het klooster, gebouwd op dezelfde plek waar vroeger een kleine middeleeuwse kapel was gewijd aan São Gonçalo, integreert de prachtige São Gonçalo-kerk, onder Dominicaans project en stijl. Met een maniëristische stijl heeft de kerk een Latijns kruisplan en een grandioze façade met drie verdiepingen, een barok en de andere twee in renaissance stijl. Het interieur heeft drie beuken, waar zich de belangrijke kapel van São Gonçalo bevindt, waar de overgebleven sterveling van de heilige nu rust, onder een kalkstenen tombe.
Het gaat terug tot de achttiende eeuw, de constructie van de brug van Amarante die de twee oevers verbindt op dezelfde plaats als de primitieve brug gebouwd door Saint Gonçalo om de pelgrims over te laten.

Passeio de Barco en Rio Douro
Het treinstation Pinhão, aan de Douro-lijn, werd gebouwd in de 19e eeuw en is een must voor iedereen die de regio Douro bezoekt. In 1937 ontving het station de panelen van tegels die het bekendheid gaven en veranderde het in het mooiste treinstation van de Douro. Deze, in een totaal van ongeveer 3047 tegels, werden geproduceerd in Aleluia Cerâmicas (Fábrica Aleluia) door J. Oliveira, een kunstenaar die ook andere Portugese stations versierde.

We had an incredible private tour to the Douro Valley with Marco and could not have asked for a better guide. From the moment the tour started, he shared so many interesting historical details and fun facts about Porto, the Douro Valley, and Portugal that made the entire experience even more meaningful and enjoyable. Marco also went above and beyond by making a wonderful last-minute lunch reservation for us at Rabelo, where we were treated exceptionally well and had a fantastic dining experience. Everything throughout the day felt seamless, relaxed, and thoughtfully planned. His knowledge and professionalism made this one of the highlights of our trip. We highly recommend Marco to anyone looking for a memorable and personalized experience in the Douro Valley.
We had 6 ladies in our private wine tour. Racquel did a wonderful job of explaining the wine making process at Sandeman winery, ending with a special port tasting. We were provided a magnificent lunch buffet with 3 wines looking out onto the Duoro Valley and surrounding wineries, absolutely beautiful. We completed our day with a cruise on the river. It was relaxing and magical! Very nice to see the wineries from the river. Our driver Marco provided our transportation to and from this excursion and also two other days of transportation. We could not have been happier. The man was so informative about the Portuguese culture, kind and PATIENT, as we forgot personal items and needed extra stops along the way. We would all definitely request his services again. We could not have asked for better service from a driver.
I really enjoyed the Douro Valley wine tour. Beautiful vineyard, fun picnic lunch and gorgeous scenery. We really liked our driver Marco as well!!
Marco was so informative and knowledgeable of the history of the areas that we visited. He tailored our ride to and from the valley with personalized experiences and went above and beyond making our day so memorable!
We were a group of 4 and only booked this trip just the evening before we went, it was a full day out and a really fantastic experience and a great price. Although it was a 2 hour car journey to get there it was broken up by a coffee stop half way and a stroll around a little village , after that we drove a little further to do port wine tasting in the valley, scenery was just spectacular all along the way then it was on to lunch by the riverside in a lovely local restaurant where the cheeses, wine , beers meats we all made by the owners in Pinhao. After lunch Marco our guide took us to a high view point, a hidden gem with again spectacular views and finally a boat trip along the river. Marco was brilliant, he booked our lunch for us , very informative and accommodating every step of the way. Would thoroughly recommend both Marco and this company for a great day out .

We had (family, five persons, a lot of experience using vip-services) a private tour from Porto to Douro wine-area, especially to Pinhao area and there winetasting, lunch and river-tour by boat. Our driver and guide was Joao Frade. Excellent service, a lot of information and good English skills. I recommend strongly. Hole daytrip was all worth of money in a reasonable price.
Bernadino hosted our private tour at short notice. The car was plush and spotless. Bernadino was hugely knowledgeable and passionate about the area with a personal interest in the wine industry which was a great benefit to us. His English is endearing. Our experience was extremely good value for money and an excellent recommendation from the local tourist office.
Our private driver Ivan Oliveira was a superb host touring us throughout the Douro Valley- Ivan's personal knowledge, professionalism, and friendly manner made for a perfect day. Ivan suggested lunch at the DOC restaurant which was absolutely incredible - the food, setting, and service was outstanding - Thank you, Ivan!!!
