De kanten kustweg die begint in de Atheense voorstad Glyfada en zich een weg baant door Vouliagmeni en Lagonisi om Cape Sounio te bereiken, is een van de meest sublieme routes van Attica. Kleine stranden met hun zandige oevers of rotsachtige stukken, kristalhelder, sprankelend water en een perfect blauwe lucht begeleiden je onderweg en verrukken de zintuigen, geest en ziel van iedereen die deze prachtige route neemt om bij een van de meest idyllische plekken van Griekenland te komen, Kaap Sounio. Van een afstand is je blik gefascineerd door de ruïnes van de tempel van Poseidon, commandant, verbluffend, een karakteristiek voorbeeld van klassieke architectuur uit de 5e eeuw voor Christus. Dit is de plek die de oude Atheners kozen om hun god Poseidon te eren, in een fort gebouwd om hun kustlijn te beschermen. Miljoenen bezoekers van over de hele wereld komen hier ook om te staren naar de ondergaande zon in de armen van de Saronische Golf. Een herinnering die hun leven lang bijblijft ...

Ophalen bij uw hotel, appartement, Airbnb, de luchthaven van Athene of de haven van Piraeus. We hebben ongeveer 1,5 uur nodig om in Sounio te komen.
Glyfada is een buitenwijk in het zuiden van Athene, aan de Atheense Rivièra. Het is gelegen in de zuidelijke delen van het stedelijke gebied van Athene. Het gebied strekt zich uit van de voet van de berg Hymettus tot aan de Saronische Golf. Het is de grootste van de zuidelijke buitenwijken van Athene.
Voula is een zuidelijke buitenwijk van Athene.
Vouliagmeni is een buitenwijk aan zee en een voormalige gemeente, 20 km ten zuiden van het stadscentrum van Athene.
Varkiza, ook Alianthos, is een buitenwijk van Athene die deel uitmaakt van de gemeente Vari-Voula-Vouliagmeni in het zuiden van Attica
Anavyssos is een stad en een voormalige gemeente in Oost-Attica.
Kaap Sounion is het voorgebergte op het zuidelijkste puntje van het schiereiland Attic, 8 kilometer (5,0 mijl) ten zuiden van de stad Lavrio (het oude Thoricus) en 70 kilometer (43 mijl) ten zuidoosten van Athene. Het maakt deel uit van de gemeente Lavreotiki, Oost-Attica. Het ligt op 59,6 km afstand van Athene. Kaap Sounion staat bekend om zijn Tempel van Poseidon, een van de belangrijkste monumenten van de Gouden Eeuw van Athene. De overblijfselen liggen op de landtong, aan drie kanten omgeven door de zee.
De oude Griekse tempel van Poseidon op Kaap Sounion, gebouwd tussen 444-440 voor Christus, is een van de belangrijkste monumenten van de Gouden Eeuw van Athene. Een Dorische tempel, kijkt uit over de zee aan het einde van Kaap Sounion, op een hoogte van bijna 60 meter (200 voet).
Als de optie "Zonder eten" is geselecteerd, stoppen we tijdens onze terugkeer naar de stad Athene op een van de meest idyllische plekken. Het meer van Vouliagmeni, in het hart van de Atheense Rivièra, is de verborgen schat van de natuur van Attica. Lake Vouliagmeni ("Verzonken Meer") is een klein brakwatermeer dat wordt gevoed door ondergrondse stromingen die door de massa van de berg Hymettus sijpelen, ten zuiden van Vouliagmeni.
Als de optie "Met traditioneel Grieks eten" is geselecteerd, stoppen we bij een taverne aan zee in de buurt van de kustplaats Anavyssos om te genieten van de authentieke Griekse keuken en traditionele gerechten.

- De tempel van Poseidon in Sounio sluit 30 minuten voor zonsondergang. De zonsondergang van november tot april is rond 17.00 uur.
- Onze chauffeurs zijn geen officiële gidsen, maar ze zijn deskundig en kunnen fascinerend commentaar geven in vloeiend Engels. Hoewel ze de archeologische vindplaatsen niet met je zullen betreden, kunnen ze al je vragen beantwoorden over de plaatsen die je bezoekt met deze tour.
- Activiteiten van derden en vooral extreme sporten zijn tijdens de tour niet toegestaan. Dit kan een reden zijn voor onmiddellijke annulering van de tour.

Fantastic trip. Our driver was knowledgeable putting out things and giving information as we drove the 1 1/2 hours from the port to the temple. Be sure to arrive before sunset as the views are spectacular. Be forewarned that it gets cold and windy very quickly at sunset. We traveled 4/28. We opted for the Greek dinner. The owner was friendly and the food good. You had your choice of any items on the menu plus beer or wine. This trip was our one splurge and worth it.

Great trip to Sounion. We very much enjoyed the company of Mike who was a very entertaining and competent driver. We loved his sense of humor and knowledge and his good stories. He offered us a good suggestion for a meal on the way as well. We highly recommend him.

This was great. Nick was a great guide. The car was a comfortable Mercedes van. We loved Cape Sounio - it was a stunning place to visit. And we opted for lunch on our way home, which was a delicious seafood meal on the water.

Dimitri picked us up at the port in Athens as we were on a cruise. Pickup went smoothly as he was right at the entrance as I had been advised via WhatsApp. When we asked for an English speaking tour guide we hoped for, but did not expect such easy communication. It was a fantastic trip that I would urge anyone to try. For added incentive, Dimitri stopped on the way back to Athens at a restaurant right on the Adriatic Sea where we had an authentic Greek meal. We all enjoyed our day with Dimitri!

This tour met my expectations and exceeded them! George was a bit early for our pickup time but we were ready and it was good to get on the road early (9:30) to beat some of the tourist busses. George was a delightful man, livening in Athens all of his life, so he was very knowledgeable about the island all of the questions we asked. George provided water and WiFi for the trip. Our first stop was a beautiful lookout at a swimming lake in Vouliagmeni,just a quick stop to stretch our legs and admire the beautiful view. Then it was on to the Temple of Poseidon. George told us how this was a strategic spot for the ancient Athenians to use as a lookout for enemy attack boats. The ruins perched on the edge of the water just blew me away, it was stunning. After our visit, George took us to a lovely seaside restaurant owned by 4 brothers, 2 worked in the restaurant and the other 2 were the fisherman. We were please with the table and view and we also avoided a few large groups! Our meal was outstanding. We listened to the waiter’s recommendations and we were very pleased. Our friends had the Sea Grill which was cooked and then filleted tableside and I had the Mussels Saganaki,Greek salad, beetroot salad and of course some Mythos, a Greek beer. Perfect spot for lunch with amazing food. Then back on to our hotel in Athens. We all wholeheartedly said that this booking was a Grand Slam and highly recommend it.
