De beroemdste van de Padua-kerken is de Basilica di S.Antonio, we noemen het gewoon "Il Santo". De beenderen van de heilige rusten in een kapel die rijkelijk versierd is met gebeeldhouwd marmer, het werk van verschillende kunstenaars, waaronder Sansovino en Falconetto. De basiliek werd een jaar na de dood van St. Antonius 1232 begonnen en in de volgende eeuw voltooid. Op het plein, voor de basiliek, staat het prachtige ruiterstandbeeld van Donatello van de Venetiaanse generaal Erasmo da Narni, genaamd Gattamelata. Het werd gegoten in 1453 en was het eerste bronzen beeld op ware grootte sinds de oudheid.
In het centrum van de historische stad, de gebouwen van Palazzo del Bò, de oude universiteit gesticht in 1222. De lijst van professoren en alumni is lang en illuster, met onder andere de namen van de anatoom Vesalius, Copernicus, Fallopius, Galileo Galilei, William Harvey. Het is ook de plek waar Elena Lucrezia Cornaro Piscopia in 1678 als eerste vrouw ter wereld afstudeerde. De universiteit herbergt het oudste anatomische theater, gebouwd in 1594. Houd er rekening mee dat: Zelfgeleide rondleidingen zijn niet beschikbaar in Palazzo Bo: toegang tot het gebouw is alleen mogelijk met een rondleiding. Ik reserveer graag je ticket, geen vooruitbetaling gevraagd.
Palazzo Della Ragione (Salone) met zijn grote zaal op de bovenverdieping, heeft de reputatie het grootste dak te hebben dat niet door zuilen wordt ondersteund in Europa; de muren zijn bedekt met allegorische fresco's. Het eerste Palazzo begon in 1172 en eindigde in 1219. In 1306 bedekte Fra Giovanni, een Augustijner monnik, het geheel met één dak. Onder de grote zaal bevinden zich twee eeuwenoude markten: Piazza Frutti, Piazza Erbe.
Op het Piazza dei Signori bevindt zich de prachtige loggia genaamd de Gran Guardia (1493-1526), en het Palazzo del Capitaniato, de residentie van de Venetiaanse gouverneurs.
Het is al sinds de pre-romeinse tijd het commerciële hart van Padova. Het herbergt nog steeds een bruisende en kleurrijke groente- en fruitmarkt (ma t/m za)
