Deze unieke tour maakt gebruik van de artistieke en literaire rijkdom van Ierland om de historische momenten, tradities, oorlogen, bewegingen en tijdperken uit te leggen die Ierland door de eeuwen heen hebben gevormd. We zullen de hoogtepunten van de National Gallery, National Library en National Museum verkennen, met een pauze halverwege. Overweeg die grote culturele en artistieke schatten die de geschiedenis van uw land vertegenwoordigen. Voor de VS zijn het schilderijen als ‘Washington Crossing the Delaware’ en ‘American Gothic’ van Grant Wood, originele manuscripten van Edgar Allan Poe en Walt Whitman en objecten vol culturele symboliek zoals The Liberty Bell. Deze tour laat je hun Ierse equivalenten zien: - Symbolische schilderijen die de Normandische verovering van Ierland en de Ierse burgeroorlog vertegenwoordigen; - Inzicht in het leven en werk van W.B. Yeats - de grootste dichter van Ierland; - De Tara-broche en de Ardagh-kelk - schatten die de Gouden Eeuw van Ierland belichamen (500-800AD).

We zullen de hoogtepunten van de National Gallery verkennen: Europeanen meesters zoals Carvaggio, Monet en Picasso; een blik op de Ierse schilder Jack Yeats; en nog belangrijker, we zullen werken verkennen die het verhaal van de Ierse geschiedenis helpen vertellen.
Vervolgens zullen we de prachtige Nationale Bibliotheek verkennen met een enorme leeszaal die je terugvoert naar Joyce's Dublin van 1904. Ontsteek je bewondering voor poëzie opnieuw met inzicht in het leven en werk van W.B. Yeats, de grootste dichter van Ierland.

We had one day in Dublin and were lucky to find John Caffrey as a tour guide. We might have wandered aimlessly through three fantastic museums, but John was able to focus on select features of each, providing fascinating context and history to the exhibits we were interested in. It was by no means a “canned” tour, and John was very flexible and generous with his knowledge and time. We learned more in four hours with John than two weeks traveling through Ireland! Easily the best “bang for your buck.” My only regret is that we didn’t have the time for his other tour offerings!

John Caffrey gave us an amazing afternoon out at two extraordinary museums. My wife and I were blown away with how knowledgeable John was along with his passion for Irish history. We loved looking over various art pieces with him at the National Gallery as well where he frequently provided fantastic context for the paintings. We cannot recommend this tour enough!!

Austin knows Dublin inside out and was a good storyteller, but some of his stories rambled. He did take us to additional areas at our request—we did have to walk back to our hotel after the tour though.
