Praag heeft veel middeleeuwse monumenten bewaard. Maar ook ongelooflijke moderne gebouwen! Ga mee met onze geleerde en charismatische gidsen op een fascinerende reis door de jaren 1890 tot 1940. In die jaren maakte de Praagse architectuur een vlaag van stijlen door die vallen onder de paraplu’s van Art Nouveau, Art Deco en Modernisme. Beginnend bij het adembenemende Centraal Station uit 1901, beginnen we aan een reis vol prachtige gevels, verborgen winkel arcades en contrasterende landschappen van meerdere stijlen in één uitzicht. Naast het leveren van feiten, is deze tour ook ontworpen om u een verhaal te vertellen : In de loop van twee generaties hebben wetenschappelijke, sociale en culturele veranderingen een artistieke revolutie veroorzaakt die tot op de dag van vandaag van invloed is op de architectuur. Hoe beïnvloedde Einstein de kubistische architectuur van Praag? En waarom bouwen we geen mooie gebouwen meer als beschaving? Kom en bekijk deze stad door een heel andere lens!

Het historische gebouw van het centraal station van Praag, geopend in 1909, is een goed voorbeeld van de lokale art nouveau-architectuur. Het is onlangs gereconstrueerd en biedt ongelooflijke schoonheid in de zalen en gangen.
Gebouwd in traditionele Moorse Revival stijl typisch voor synagogen, de Jeruzalem synagoge uit 1906 bevat elementen van de Art Nouveau stijl.
Drie luxe appartementenhuizen uit 1903 geven goede voorbeelden van vroege Art Nouveau architectuur in Praag.
Het Hotel Central uit 1899 is een van de eerste gebouwen in Praag in Art Nouveau-stijl.
Het gemeentehuis van Praag, gebouwd in 1905, doet nog steeds dienst als het huis van cultuur en representatie van Praag. Het is een van de grootste en belangrijkste Praagse Art Nouveau-architectuurstukken.
Het 1912 House at the Black Madonna is het vlaggenschip van de kubistische architectuur, uniek voor Praag en de Tsjechische landen.
De grensboulevard tussen de oude binnenstad van Praag en de nieuwe binnenstad bevat een bankgebouw uit 1906 dat de 2e fase van de art nouveau in Praag inluidde.
Een multifunctioneel stadspaleis uit 1913 in de stijl van de late Art Nouveau beschikt over een adembenemende winkel arcade.
In 1913 werden twee middeleeuwse huizen, waaronder een 16e-eeuwse apotheek, samengevoegd en gereconstrueerd volgens een plan met behulp van modernistische, art nouveau en kubistische elementen, waaronder de iconische kubistische lantaarnpaal.
Dit plein bevat meerdere Art Deco gebouwen uit de jaren 1920 en 30. Een van hen heeft een prachtige winkel arcade in die stijl. Een ander prachtig Art Nouveau gebouw is hier ook te zien.
Een van de centrale pleinen in de binnenstad van Praag biedt verschillende prachtige Art Nouveau en Art Deco hotels en warenhuizen.

It was a wonderful overview of Prague architecture from the origins of art nouveau to functionalism. We were able to learn and see the evolution of styles from the time when much of Prague was constructed and see how they evolved. Our tour guide was knowledgeable, organized and fun.

We are extremely grateful to our tour guide, Max, who helped us out with language translation issue with train station staff at the beginning of our tour! This tour is a great option to explore some of Prague’s most iconic Art Nouveau sites, though those seeking a deeper, more academic analysis of the architecture may find it a bit lighter in detail.
Dear Annie, thank you for your feedback. When I put a tour together, I first build a narrative that is going to be interesting for seasoned veterans as well as engaging for someone completely new to the subject. My goals are to let people see the historical architecture in a different light, by pointing out hidden details and telling engaging stories. I focus on building on the information people already know and presenting only things people can actually remember. I focus on things that are explainable within a few minutes so that the tour doesn't get stuck on a spot. But make no mistake, all of the light approach is founded in a lot of reading, visiting exhibitions and travelling various European cities. I don't expect people to seek out a tour for an academic analysis. IMHO, there are better formats for that than a tour is, like books and lectures. Nevertheless, a beauty of a private tour is you can always let your tourguide know the way they're doing it is not cutting it for you. And a good tour guide can always tailor things for you, if you let them know. But I get it. There is a risk of possible confrontation in this, and you had enough of that already that day. I would really love to answer any remaining questions you have about Prague Art Nouveau. Point you towards the right literature if neccessary. The buildings we visited were great. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable. There is walking involved and it can go longer than the 2.5 hours.

This tour was a unique and fascinating way to orient us to Prague. Max is brilliant and engaging, we enjoyed touring the city and being surprised from every new vantage point. Although we began with very little knowledge of art nouveau and cubism, we found at the end of our tour that we could recognize and discover for ourselves examples of these styles across the city. I would absolutely recommend Max and this tour to anyone visiting this beautiful and historic city.
