Toen de woede van de Vesuvius Pompeii en Herculaneum begroef tijdens de uitbarsting van 79 na Christus, waren de twee steden in volle pracht. Pompeii was een chaotische havenstad met een drukte van mensen van overal; Herculaneum een weelderig zomerresort. Ik ben een professionele gids met een verwoestende passie voor archeologie en geschiedenis. Dit is dus zeker mijn Tour! Ver van de drukte, zullen we Pompeii en Herculaneum verkennen en in de voetsporen treden van hun oude burgers: een gewetenloze koopman, een luie patriciër, een machtige matrone, een slaaf of een onoverwinnelijke gladiator. Je leert over hun dagelijks leven, maar ook over politieke en liefdesintriges. We zullen verbazingwekkende fresco's en mozaïeken bewonderen en oude tavernes, badhuizen en "stinkende" latrines betreden. Ik zal ook uw chauffeur zijn. Tijdens onze pauze rijd ik je zachtjes naar een door een familie gerunde boerderij op de hellingen van de Vesuvius voor een ongelooflijke culinaire ervaring op basis van lokale wijn en echt eten. Ontspan, smaken en uitzichten.

Pompeii is een realtime machine. Ver van de drukte en de gebaande paden gaan we 2000 jaar terug om de grootste archeologische vindplaats ter wereld te ontdekken. We zullen de stad doorkruisen van de oude muren naar het Grand Theatre. Ik zal je het Forum laten zien, het politieke en religieuze centrum van de stad, en alle administratieve gebouwen eromheen: de basiliek (Paleis van Justitie), de tempel van Apollo, de Macellum (vis-, brood- en meetmarkt), de tempel van Jupiter en de graanschuren. Hier bevinden zich gipsafgietsels van slachtoffers die tijdens de uitbarsting verstikt om het leven zijn gekomen. We gaan luxe privéwoningen binnen om hun majestueuze tuinen te ontdekken en om levendige fresco's en verfijnde mozaïeken te bewonderen. We zullen badhuizen en oude tavernes, bakkerijen (Pistrinia) en Thermopolia (wijn- en voedselbars) verkennen. Ik zal je kennis laten maken met het dagelijks leven van de oude burgers en commentaar geven op hun geheimen, politieke en liefdesintriges. De tour is in je eigen tempo en flexibel.
Deze ervaring is ontworpen om u te laten genieten van de lokale wijnen en een eenvoudige maar zeer oprechte en typische lunch. Onze door een familie gerunde biologische boerderij ligt aan de voet van de Vesuvius. Vanaf daar is het uitzicht op de baai van Napels spectaculair. Eerst zal er een korte begeleide wandeling naar de wijngaarden en olijfboomgaarden zijn om te ontdekken hoe de familie de "Lacryma Christi"-wijnen en de extra vergine olijfolie produceert. Tijdens de lunch proef je verschillende wijnen. De lunch bestaat uit een vast menu: Voorgerechten: Bruschetta, provolone kaas, salame en capocollo gezouten varkensvlees Hoofdgerecht: Spaghetti met de cherrytomaatjes “del Piennolo” uit de Vesuvius Dessert: “Pastiera” - cake van tarwe en ricotta Er worden 5 verschillende wijnen geserveerd (Rosè Sparkling, White, Rosé. Red, Red Riserva en tenslotte Malvasia - zoete Dessertwijn). Er is een speciaal menu voor kinderen en voor vegetariërs. De ervaring is niet inbegrepen in de prijs van de tour. De kosten bedragen € 28,- per persoon, ter plaatse te betalen met creditcard of contant.
Herculaneum was een luxe Romeins resort toen het werd opgeslokt door de Vesuvius tijdens de uitbarsting van 79AD. Hier is het bezoek vooral gericht op de verkenning van majestueuze Domus, oude privéwoningen met hun intacte tuinen (House of the Deer). We zullen levendige fresco's (House of the Skeleton) en de beste glaspasta-mozaïeken bewonderen, zoals die in het Huis van Neptunus en Amphitrite. Speciale aandacht gaat uit naar de verschillen met de locatie van Pompeii: de tweede verdieping van gebouwen, het rioolstelsel en de aanwezigheid van verkoold hout zijn slechts enkele voorbeelden. We zullen de elegantie van het "vrouwelijke gedeelte" van het badhuis waarderen en het zwembad van het oude stadsgymnasium binnenlopen. Ten slotte neem ik je mee naar het oude stadsstrand waar de skeletten van 200 burgers die stierven tijdens de uitbarsting in de oude werven worden gepropt. De tour is in je eigen tempo en ik sta klaar om al je vragen en curiositeiten te beantwoorden.
We zullen genieten van deze tour in de schaduw van de Vesuvius. Het is 4000 voet hoog en het duurt te lang om naar de krater te rijden. Maar we kunnen er spectaculaire foto's van maken vanaf de sites van Pompeii en Herculaneum.

Natalia was a great tour guide of Pompeii and Herculaneum for our party of (7) including teens. It was the hottest day and we are from Florida. We had a wine tasting lunch in between at an organic winery located on the side of Mt. Vesuvius. That was a pleasant surprise. If we had to do it again, doing both places in one day is not necessary. Pick Pompeii.
Our guide Guiseppe was extremely well informed and precise on the history of Pompei and Herculanum. We were very fortunate to have such a professional and knowledged person to show us around these two magnificent places. We highly recomend Guiseppe as a guide.
Fabulous experience. We were fortunate to meet Giuseppe as a couple in 2024 for a tour of Pompeii and Amalfi coast. We so enjoyed our experience that we booked again for our family trip with our teen daughters back to Pompeii and then for the wine tasting as suggested by G who then took us to Ravello where this time we stayed. We had such a wonderful time with Giuseppe! His communication leading up to the tour was great. We even made a last minute decision to skip Pompeii because we wanted to get off the beaten path. Natalia had all of the knowledge, experience, organization and warmth that are hallmarks of a good guide. With her we learned more about Pompeii and Herculaneum than we ever would have on our own, and since it was a private tour, we covered far more ground than a large tour could have in the same time. Lunch and wine tasting at the Cantina Del Vesuvia (45€ each) made for a perfect break in the middle of the day. If you are interested in a private tour, I highly recommend this one.

Guiseppe, of Travel Italy (I believe), took care of us from the minute he picked us up in Sorrento in his air conditioned minivan (which seated 7). He narrated what we were seeing in the hour drive to Pompeii and his personal tour of Pompeii was the highlight of our tour of Italy. He also arranged for the wine tasting and vineyard tour and drove us all the way back to our villa in Massa Lubrense as opposed to making us drop off in Sorrento. Would highly recommend private tour to Pompeii with guide. Are driver and guide were 1st. class and really added to the experience. However I wouldn’t recommend the wine tasting/tour. Although the wine was very good, the food was not. Also be aware the Hercaluem is closed on a Wednesday.

It's an optional within the tour and both, food and wine served, are high quality.
