Voordat we het DMZ-gebied ingaan en ID-controle doen, zullen we door 3 haltes kijken - Vrijheidsbrug, Mangbaedan-altaar, stoomlocomotief vernietigd tijdens de Koreaanse oorlog in Imjingak Park. Imjingak werd in 1972 gebouwd ten behoeve van ontheemde Noord-Koreanen. Het is aan het einde van nationale weg nr. 1, waartoe burgers toegang hebben.
Mangbaedan is een altaar waar Noord-Koreaanse vluchtelingen in het zuiden voorouderlijke riten houden op de twee grootste nationale feestdagen voor hun ouders en grootouders die in het noorden zijn achtergelaten.
De derde tunnel verwijst naar een van de tunnels die Noord-Korea zuidwaarts heeft gegraven onder de DMZ. Het ligt 12 km van Munsan en 52 km van Seoel en werd ontdekt op 17 oktober 1978. De tunnel is 2 meter breed, 2 meter hoog en meer dan 1.635 meter lang - groot genoeg om zo'n 30.000 soldaten per uur te huisvesten. Het werd in 1978 ontdekt op een plek vier kilometer ten zuiden van Panmunjom. Zal naar beneden gaan en te voet rondkijken. Nadat je uit de tunnel bent gekomen, ga je ook een korte videoclip bekijken in het DMZ-theater die de geschiedenis van de Koreaanse divisie en het natuurlijke ecosysteem rond de DMZ laat zien.
Dora Observatory, het meest noordelijke observatorium aan de westkant van de Republiek Korea, werd in januari 1987 geopend op de berg Dora. Op heldere dagen kunnen het Gaeseong Industrial Complex, Mount Songak in Gaeseong, standbeelden van Kim Il Sung, Kijeong-dong in het noorden, de buitenwijken van Gaeseong en Geummamgol (coöperatieve boerderij) allemaal worden bekeken door de talrijke telescopen die op de dak.
Dit is gebouwd om hereniging en vrede op het schiereiland Korea te wensen. Het is gebouwd om Imjingak, een symbool van verdeeldheid en spanning, te transformeren in een symbool van verzoening, gezamenlijke welvaart, vrede en eenwording. Het hele jaar door vinden hier verschillende optredens, tentoonstellingen, filmvertoningen en festivals plaats.
[Optie 1] Dit is de eerste stop van je korte wandelcursus, je moet 15 minuten lopen naar boven. Het is een van de langste hangbruggen van Korea met een lengte van 150 meter en was vroeger een hevig slagveld tijdens de Koreaanse oorlog. Na een korte wandeling naar de top, bereik je het geweldige uitkijkpunt op de berg Gamaksan.
[Optie 2] Hier vochten de geallieerden een hevige strijd in de Koreaanse oorlog. Veel geallieerde soldaten verloren en offerden hier hun waardevolle leven tijdens de Koreaanse oorlog. In april 1951 was er een felle strijd om een verdedigingslinie (delta verdedigingslinie) te bouwen om Seoul te beschermen tegen het communisme Leger Mei 1951, waar werd gevochten om de Kansas Line op te rukken.

We had a private day tour to the DMZ with Won and we LOVED IT. We were comfortable in a private van and the day was clearly communicated to us. Won made accommodations for one of our family members with a knee injury and we much appreciated that. We would recommend this tour with Won to anyone.
Young was an excellent tour guide - very knowledgeable and flexible with what we wanted to do! We thoroughly enjoyed meeting with a woman who had defected from North Korea, particularly because I still have family living there. She was very open to answering our many questions. The DMZ tour was also very informative, though I found the ascent out of the 3rd tunnel pretty challenging, and I consider myself pretty fit! I am glad I had my Hoka shoes on! We opted not to see the suspension bridge but to visit another observatory with views into North Korea. Overall, a GREAT day! Young was an interesting, kind, super knowledgeable, and very flexible tour guide, and he made our day a very memorable one! We look forward to touring with Young again on our next visit to Seoul!
We did a private DMZ tour today with Won being our tour guide. This was easily one of the highlights of our 3 week vacation. He picked us up at our hotel and we then went to the Dora Observatory, 3rd tunnel, suspension bridge and got to meet privately with a North Korean defector and hear her story. He brought us to an incredible location for lunch as well. Won made our tour today fantastic. We spent a lot of time chatting about history, family, food, travels and it felt like spending time with a friend. He was wonderful with our children (10 and 13) as well. Highly recommend the tour and having Won as your tour guide. The day could not have been any better!
Alex was a delight to have us a Tour Guide for the Private tour to DMZ. We were picked up and dropped off in our hotel, he was very knowledgeable throughout the trip and made it very interesting. We wanted a private tour so that we could ask questions and get picked up at our hotel (versus trying to navigate to a meet up location) and our guide, Young, was communicative and knowledgeable on timing of the day and getting us where we need to go. We picked us up early, and we had a nice ride to the DMZ tour starting point with no traffic and the ability to sightsee. The first park where you see monuments and interact with different experiences was great. We got out souvenirs and some snacks before boarding a larger bus into the DMW. We did the Third Tunnel experience, Dora Observatory, and heard the NK Defector speak. They were happy to answer questions with the translator keeping it brief and not adding too much emotion to it. Our day ended with a nice drive back and only a little bit of the famous Seoul traffic. I'd highly recommend this company, our guide Young, and the sites we saw. We had a full day out of it. Thank you Young!
