Bezoek de historische stad Timișoara, een van de grootste steden van Roemenië, gebouwd op de plek van een oud Romeins fort. Luister naar verhalen over de revolutie van 1989 tegen het communistische regime en neem de tijd om het zelf te verkennen en een leuke plek te vinden voor de lunch.

Ontmoet uw chauffeur bij uw accommodatie in Belgrado en vestig u in uw privévoertuig voor de 2,5-uur durende reis naar Timisoara.
Deze wandeltocht door Timisoara begint met de binnenstad van Cetate om het essentiële beeld van Timisoara te zien - veel oude gebouwen in de stijl van art nouveau of barok, grote autovrije pleinen die zijn geraakt door de Europese geschiedenis, evenals het multiculturele karakter van de stad en de Banat-regio.
We zullen onze sightseeing hier beginnen. De kathedraal werd gebouwd in de late jaren 1930 in de eclectische neo-Moldavische stijl, die Byzantijnse, Gotische, Ottomaanse en Renaissance-elementen combineert. Let binnen op de fragmenten van het 18e-eeuwse altaar, uitgevoerd in barokstijl. De kelder herbergt collecties van religieuze voorwerpen, waaronder zeldzame boeken, pictogrammen en schilderijen. Zoek naar opsommingstekens op de trappen voor de kathedraal, die deel uitmaken van het verhaal van de revolutie van het volk die begon in Timisoara.
We vervolgen onze tour met een bezoek aan Victory Square, ook wel bekend als Opera Square. Aangelegd in 1906, beschikt het plein over verschillende theaters, een museum, een monument voor koning Ferdinand en een gedenkteken voor de slachtoffers van de revolutie van 1989. Je vindt er ook een oude geboorde put en het beeld van een Capitolijnse wolvin, een geschenk van de stad Rome. Op de begane grond van de 19e-eeuwse gebouwen zijn boekhandels, kunstgalerijen, cafés en restaurants gevestigd.
Het volgende is het Vrijheidsplein, waar het oude stadhuis met de Turkse inscriptie staat en de mengeling van culturen, religies en beschavingen laat zien. Het wordt omringd door belangrijke gebouwen, waaronder het oudste in de stad, het Casino Militair Museum, evenals het oude stadhuis en het ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken. Het Sf Ioan Nepomuk Monument (de katholieke beschermheer in Banat) staat in het midden. Het werd in 1756 met zandsteen gebouwd door de Weense beeldhouwer Wasserburger Blim ter ere van degenen die stierven tijdens de pestepidemie van 1738.
Union Square is het oudste plein in Timisoara en de dominante architectuur onderscheidt zich van die van het veel jongere Victory Square. Het wordt geflankeerd door imposante gebouwen uit de 18e en 19e eeuw, de rooms-katholieke kathedraal St. George en de Servisch-orthodoxe kathedraal met een bisschopswoning. Het lijkt erop dat deze twee "niet-zo-in-eenheid" christelijke kerken (hier tegenover elkaar in vrede) de symbolische naam aan het plein gaven - Unie. Tot 1919 stond het plein bekend als "Lasonczy Market", ter ere van de 16e-eeuwse commandant Stefan (Istvan) Lasonchy, die de stad dapper verdedigde tegen de Turken.
De Servisch-orthodoxe kathedraal (gebouwd tussen 1745 en 1748) vertegenwoordigt de barokke stijl. De structuur van de kerk contrasteert mooi met de gevel van de bisschopswoning (vicariaat) die ernaast staat. Beide structuren getuigen van de sterke Servische aanwezigheid in Banat (in het verleden stond Timisoara inderdaad kort onder de controle van het Servische koninkrijk, maar zelfs vandaag ligt het nog steeds zeer dicht bij de Servische grens).
De Weense architect Emanuel Fisher von Erlach ontwierp de imposante rooms-katholieke kathedraal op dezelfde manier - het vertegenwoordigt de barokke stijl. De bouwwerkzaamheden begonnen in 1736 en duurden 18 jaar. Na de dood van Fisher von Erlach in 1742 namen lokale architecten uit Timisoara - Theodor Kostka en Alexander Steinlein de hoofdrol in het project. Het schilderij van St. George op het hoofdaltaar is een werk van Michelangelo Unterberger, terwijl het orgel is gemaakt door de Oostenrijkse meester - Carl Leopold Wegenstein.
We zullen onze sightseeing hier beëindigen. Het is een ideale locatie om de anticommunistische revolutie van december 1989, die hier in Timişoara begon, op te frissen. Displays omvatten documentatie, posters en fotografie uit die noodlottige dagen, afgedekt door een grafische video van 20 minuten (niet geschikt voor jonge kinderen) met Engelse ondertitels. Geniet na het museum van je vrije tijd om zelfstandig door de stad te dwalen of naar de winkels te gaan. Geniet voor de lunch (op eigen kosten) van traditionele Roemeense gerechten in een lokaal restaurant dat onze gids u graag zal aanbevelen.
Na vrije tijd ontmoet je je gids voor de terugreis naar Belgrado en rond je tour af met een drop-off in je hotel.

There is so much to say about our private tour to Timisora from Belgrade with Konstantin from Victor Tours. As 2 ladies in our early 30s a full day tour with a random man in a car was a daunting thought however we shouldnt have worried. From the moment he collected us in his spacious Skoda it felt like a trip out with your cool uncle. He was respectful, chatty, extremely knowledgeable. He made sure we were fully prepared at boarder crossings, had regular stops during the 3 hours drive each way for water and toilet breaks. He was always happy to take photos of us at pretty areas. He showed us around Timisora at a great pace and actually missed his company when we had our 2 hours alone time roaming the town. The only down side was he drove abit too slow in the big roads for my liking, many people were over taking us however he was spending more time teaching us the history of Serbia and Romania and anything else we asked for, so it was a safety thing for him I think then a timing issue. Even after we finished the tour he kept helping us out, he knew we didnt have a good your with another company I Belgrade so he sent over recommendations for where to go for dinner and drinks away from the tourist bohemian quarter. He even checked in with us later that evening to see how it went. I think this will be a working relationship that we will continue growing the next time we visit the region. Interesting city with past and history, which in a couple of hours is visited. Sthefan was our English driver and guide. Excellent work you did to us. To put a “but”, it would be in time spent on going back and forth on the same day.

The agency which took care of the trip and details was very organized. They provided all of the details prior to the trip and I felt very comfortable. My driver (Uros) was on time and greeted me with a smile smile and handshake. He was friendly, personally and nice. We had a great driver to Timisoara and he gave me a history lesson as we left Belgrade and another as we entered Timisoara. He gave me ample time to take photos and to explore on my own. The city was beautiful and well worth the trip!!! Uros got me there safe and back to Belgrade on time I could not have asked for a better tour nor a better guide
The tour was fantastic I would 100% recommend the drive between Serbia and Romania is fascinating to see the countryside (For an Australian at least) and the city of Timisoara is stunning from the banks of the river to the main square, the Orthodox Church and the museum of the 1989 revolution. I must recommend to anyone interested in history, and beautiful old towns and historical cities. I also had a fantastic tour guide, who was really well versed in the history of the region.
We did this day trip to Timisoara not knowing exactly what to expect. We loved it! Despite the terrible weather we experienced that day, the city is full of surprises. Its relatively small but the history and architecture are amazing. Our guide (Drazen) could not have been any better. If at all possible, I would recommend requesting him to be your guide. He's polite, punctual, very knowledgeable and speaks English perfectly as he used to live in the US. We visited three countries on this trip to Europe and Timisoara was a nice surprise for us.

Radenko arrived at my hotel perfectly on time and was very knowledgeable about the areas of Serbia and Romania that we drove through. The drive is a few hours, but it really flew by quickly and was in a comfortable car. Once we arrived in the city, I was given a tour of all of the major attractions and then he arranged my ticket at the museum of the revolution, gave me an amazing recommendation for lunch at a brewery with fantastic food, and a time to meet back at the car for the drive back across the border and back to my hotel. I was very thankful to have that free time as the official itinerary for this tour only states 30 minutes at the museum and I was able to really take my time and see all of the exhibits.
